I agree about Comix Zone. it makes a nice bridge between the most celebrated hi-saturation prime color art styles in POP...Comics and Pixelart. In tiling it also has a very clever way of sidestepping "breaking the grid" with it's panel structure.
There is a very curious and pixelly effect in Genesis, because it used to blur vertical lines together...and many games took advantage of that to sort of fake an alpha blending(that Genesis never had) it'd be very interesting in a Computer Aesthetic kind of way because of that too.
That's without even mentioning the animation...that makes great use of timing to save some frames...specially in the more humanoid characters.
