[PAID] Pixel art generalist wanted (20-40 h / week)

on: September 22, 2019, 01:45:24 pm
Hi, everybody!

We are DigiTales, an independent game studio based in Saarbrücken, Germany. In the few months since our company’s creation, we have developed a demo of our first 2D adventure game called Lacuna and successfully pitched the project to publishers. If all goes as planned, we will start working on the project full-time in January 2020 and double our team size from two to four people by hiring an artist and an additional programmer. The current project is set to run 16 months, but of course we will do everything we can to keep the team together afterwards.

If you're interested, send a PM or leave a reply below including references to your previous work and an e-mail address. Don’t hesitate to apply even if you don’t tick all the boxes!

Here's a walkthrough of our current demo: https://youtu.be/zFqqMta0AvM

______________

Basic information
•   Indie dev salary – it ain’t much, but it’s honest work.
•   Local presence preferred, but we are open to remote options.
•   Permanent full-time or part-time position preferred, but freelance also possible.
•   German healthcare, paid leave etc.

Your responsibilities
•   You will work on an adventure game with an existing art style and demo.
•   You are the lead artist – without you, there will be no game.
•   You will create a wide range of assets, most of which will be low-resolution pixel art used in the game itself. This includes static and animated assets (spritesheets), environments, props, and characters.
•   If it is within your skill set, you may also be tasked with the creation of high-res artworks for use in cutscenes, as character portraits, key art or promotional posters.
•   In a tiny team, nobody has just one job. You may be involved in testing as well as discussions surrounding game design, writing, and business or technical decisions. We might also take you along to events such as exhibitions and conferences.

Requirements
•   You have a portfolio of existing art to show us, including some great pixel art.
•   You are proficient and quick in the creation of high-quality pixel art using a software of your choice.
•   You know and understand the requirements and realities of indie game development.
•   You are able to understand and express yourself in English.
•   You value friendliness and honesty.
•   You love story-driven games.

Nice to have
•   You have previously worked on one or more commercial titles.
•   Your portfolio shows that you can comfortably adapt to different styles, moods, and levels of detail when it comes to creating art and pixel art in particular.
•   You have some experience as a technical artist (e.g. know your way around shaders) or with the implementation of art into an engine such as Unity.
•   You already have the necessary equipment for your workflow at your disposal.
•   You have a formal education in art.
•   You speak and understand German.
•   You like dogs (since there might be one or two in our office).

Your benefits
•   Flexible work hours with small core time window. Home office possible.
•   Small team with flat hierarchy, eye-level collaboration and relaxed attitude.
•   You are the master of your domain with lots of creative freedom and autonomy.
•   If you’re tired, just take a nap. No kidding! Optional dog-cuddling included.
•   We like hanging out with each other and other fellow game devs outside of work.

Hey Mjeno,

Your game Lacuna looks really cool so far, love the style you have going especially with the city buildings and interiors. The lighting and neon signs later in your demo video are super cool too!  ;D

My name is Sarah Boeving, I'm an experienced 2D/Pixel artist that just finished up work as an environment and prop artist on Stranger Things 3: The Game. Besides that I also did work for Rooster Teeth's Camp Camp and Nomad of Nowhere series. In general i'm an artist that just loves to experiment and i'm very adaptable to all kinds of styles. I love working within a team setting and thrive in collaboration!

I live in Michigan but i'm always open to relocation if need be.

If you have any questions feel free to reach me at sarahboeving@gmail.com

Hello,

I am interested in the Pixel artist position, I have 10 years of experience
and have published many videogames with various publishers.

Is the position still open ? I can follow the style you ask, as you will
see I am versatile.

Please view examples of my works in the link below.
https://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=24648.0
and
http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=18041
You can also read the comments below it from previous clients as a proof of my
reliability.

Though usually I work remotely, I would be interested to explore the case of moving
to Germany to work with you, so I am willing to discuss it more.

Best regards and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, I've been practicing pixel art for a few years, I mainly do characters and still-images at the moment, no environments or animations so much yet but I plan on learning both eventually. I have done some animation, one really good piece here http://pixeljoint.com/files/icons/full/maximoanimations_wb.gif but recently I've been more focused on improving attention to detail when drawing pixel art. Still you can check my gallery from Pixel Joint to see if I may be able to do the job.

Hello! Your demo looks really promising. I think I can nail this style. I've been drawing pixels for about two years now.
I also have experience in a game project. But there is one issue - I do not speak English very well.
