I really like the way you did the scale texture in the middle
However, it seems like the texture gets lost in the bottom right part, and on the face, it looks kinda like you didn't finish the shading - those dark lines stand out too much

Overall, I really like it, though the pose seems a little awkward

---------------------------
I did an edit of the lower right part to show you what i meant:

I threw in those cross-like things that worked for the upper part
Sorry if its a little dark, i was just trying to give an idea

altho this is looking like it might be an ace piece, I don't understand why you made the tail fold back on itself and overitself in relation to the viewer
it makes no sense compositionwise

I think something like this would be much better / interesting for a piece like this

I agree with equinoxx. The pose the serpent is in looks like it would break it's spine. Unless this thing is tiny and super fast, a creature that big would need to make more of a smooth sweeping turn.

Also, the color ramps are dull. Plain old blue with plain old purple. Throw some more variance in the shades and highlights to add interest. If this thing is underwater, the highlights could turn a greenish aqua from light shining down thru the water's surface.

Perhaps it's just me, but I think it would look much niftier if you made the fins a different color, just so it's not a completely blue picture. (Or mix in another color on the fins, along with the blue).

Thanks for the helpful comments.
I took a look at it again and have to agree with all of you so I've remade the pose of it (which meant redoing almost the whole picture):

After that I've fiddled around with the colour palette and threw in some greens and reds, that's what turned out in the end:

Any better?
