we can only zoom in here, not out.
Just in case you or anyone didn't know, you can zoom out (although not past the point of the original image) by holding the ctrl key. (alt reverts it to the original size) :y:

I hate upscaled pixel sizes in games, it looks awful... For studying the pixels it's obviously handy to upscale though.

I disagree quite a lot with you there.

I don't mean to be a jerk here, but just saying you disagree a lot with someone is a worthless statement that isn't going to add anything to this conversation.
That said, I couldn't agree with him more.
I loathe upscaled pixelart in games, just the fact only half of a "pixel" can be on screen shows a lack of respect for the medium in my opinion. I think if you want something to be twice as big, then take proper advantage of the pixels and make it twice as detailed.
Again, know I'm only speaking for myself here but there is a mathematical beauty to pixelart and I think it's a waste to not embrace it.

But philosophy aside, these forums have a zoom function built in and I think it's completely unnecessary and inconsiderate to submit a piece in anything other than 1:1.

Low res sort of has it's own little touch.
Adds for tiny fun bits :)

What.
How would you even be able to play something like cave story if it wasn't scaled up?
Does scaling an image blur it?

With ease?

I played through Cave Story unscaled just fine on my PSP. I'm sure not many will complain about it being unscaled on DSiware.

I would say the problem is Cave Story exists in a world where the (PC) screens you view it on have such high resolution that you may WANT it to be bigger to take up more screen space, but it certainly doesn't need to be. It works just fine on consoles that match its resolution.
I make actual NES games. Thus, I'm the unofficial forum dealer of too much information about the NES

I don't mind viewing anything resized as long as it's not filtered and the ratio is kept 1:1. I often play pixel games/emulators on my PC scaled up.

I'm fine with upscaled pixel art so long as it's at a multiple of 100%.  Widepixels are fine, too, though I prefer 1:1 as opposed to 2:1.
