Pixel art with TouchScreen's

on: February 23, 2010, 11:56:17 pm
I'm typically a technology guy who's ready to try anything that seems like it would help finish pixel work at faster pace. Heh, that even includes using two mice if I could find a way. I've tried tablets, they were a little slow and clunky for "pixel art".

Now I am wondering. Has anyone here ever tried doing any pixel art(with their fingers) on any of those new Touchscreen laptops that have been coming out?

- I'm curious to know how fluid things were.

- How accurate were things. (I wouldn't mind taping a pin to my finger or just using nails but there are limits.)

I tried drawing on my DS.
It's not as good as you may think due to the small screen.
Maybe it's better on a bigger one but I kinda doubt it. It wasn't even pixelart so yeah.

If you really wanna speed your workflow up, use hotkeys and possibly a tablet.
Tablets take a while to get used to but once you can use it properly, you'll notice how much faster and more precise you work.
Hotkeys would be something you should be using anyway but seeing how you wanna use 2 mice (what would that be good for anyway) to speed things up suggests that your left hand does nothing while drawing.
Does scaling an image blur it?

If working with a tablet was clunky, then either your tablet was crap or you weren't used to it.

With the zoom levels you tend to work with in pixel art a tablet is very accurate and quick to work with! O:

Most tablets can be used either with fingers or with a stylus. Finger painting on a screen and drawing on a screen are two entirely different beasts.

whaa?  what kind of tablets allow finger touching?  wacoms sure dont.  unless you're talking about tablet PC's - in which case I wouldn't know much.

Year, sorry, I meant touchscreens. Wacom does have a touch version of the Bamboo, and lots of laptop touchscreens are manufactured by Wacom.

Would be interesting to see how well the new iPad works with pixel art. The screen is definitely big enough.

That reminds me, there's a third-party Pogo Sketch for the iPhone, and now even an Inklet for standard MacBook trackpads. I have no idea how they compare to a Wacom, but $25 isn't bad when you want to do a quick doodle on the road and can't be arsed to lug your Wacom around with you everywhere (which I tried once).

I could imagine to create pixelart at my fastest speed if 1 pixel on the screen was the size of one of my fingers...so that's like a wall of a touchscreen...but the navigation would be horrible, and selecting colors, except you have like, a sort of palette in your hand, digitally
