ARGH

you don't need muscles for a base sprite. You don't need muscles for a base sprite.

The proportions you've got going on are nice for simplifying a human shape and putting emphasis on things such as a more symbolic silhouette and a face where we can read the expressions

but they're also very baby like

.. and you just don't want a baby with muscles.

Get some template face action in there instead of muscles that you're gonna add clothes on anyways.

Also you might wanna extend the arms down below his hips, even though this isn't real anatomy some proportions look better when they stay the same as in reality, esp. since you've got clearly defined forms. <- tl;dr bigger longer arms, hands below hip

Head should be farther back, since this is a template and not a final one, the forward-leaningness of the current head gives it too much of a bad-posture-character, and I don't think you want every single character in your game to look like that ' 3 '

except for that ... go doodle some muscles on a larger scale and post in the official off-topic thread or something! Heh! It's great that you want to practice it - but don't do it with this sprite.

You also need to work on your shading but I don't have my tablet ready and I'd like to explain with an edit. Oh well.

K, did some of the things jad suggested: erased muscles, elongated arms, moved head to the right, changed shading on the legs so it went from dark light dark to make it kind of round looking (that was the intended effect, didnt work out though lol  :-\), probably some other things

haha, i don't know what i was thinking about the muscles, just that it looked dull to have the biggest thing on the characters body be one color, i did add some dark colors to the right of his torso and light to the left of it though. I think you're right about the head (know actually) and arm, before it looked a lot like he was drawing for a gun in a western gun fight

i don't know what to do about the hand on the left side of the drawing (his right, the one with no arm), i also need some more help with the legs, but general help on everything too

thank you

Hmm the shading you had on the legs before (sort of) made it seem like he had knees, I think what the legs needs are clear knees and less banding.
Also your lighsources don't really match up, Light seems to be coming from different places on the head and body.
And I don't think you should completly abandon all muscles, just make them more 'slimmer' and less exaggerated.
and what is that line between the leg and torso?

Anyway you're making improvements, keep it up.
