messing around with gamemaker, and more importantly, altering the hell out of a platformer tutorial...
because i don't understand the program yet.

features this little guy:

play it and tell me how awful i am for using the tutorial's platformer engine.

must...resist..urge...to...complain...about...engine....
ahem

the animations are good, and i like the tiles(even though they are from your ghost dude stuff, arent they?)
but the background could seriously use some AA.

if you make the game yourself, its so much better. xD

i could help you figure out GML if you want <.<   >.>   <.<   >.>

guilty.  :D
i just kind of grabbed any tiles i could find just to throw them in there instead of crappy looking solid squares.

i'd make the game myself, but as of right now, i'm completely dumbfounded by programming and the idea of scripts and stuff. so i figured i'd play around with the tutorials engine just to try to understand it, i guess.

any help you'd want to give would be appreciated, since i'm pretty much on my own with it.

The manual has everything you need on GML. If you want I could tutor you once you familiarize yourself with the D&D.

is it cross platform?  ;D

remember, not everyone uses windows, and that looks like a windows-only application. what about the folks that use linux and mac? we do make up a large part of the computer world...

edit:

to familiarize yourself with scripts and programming, maybe check out verge3 engine at verge-rpg.com... i know i know, rpg. although specifically designed for rpg, you can make any kind of 2d game with it. the games will run on mac when the .exe is replaced with the mac port. there is a linux port somewhere, the team is remaking it.

it's an engine based on c++ that will get you closer to building things from scratch. it's a real test, you learn a lot about games and stuff by using it. they also have tutorials on the website and a forum. quite an active little community....

i can honestly say that you aren't missing much.
i don't even know the program yet... :(

sorry to hear that it doesn't run on mac, linux, or even windows vista (!)
but if it means anything, i'm not out to build the next big thing...
i'm just kind of finding out ways to make little games without outside help.
