Help with palette

on: July 13, 2017, 08:13:47 pm
Hey there fellas Smiley

I am creating my own game, and have therefore made my own palette for my pixelart.
I would like to get some feedback regarding the palette. The game is set in a dark dystopian future, so a lot of the coulours are very de-saturated.

Here is a link to the palette as an image: http://imgur.com/a/xZZCr

Thanks for your time Smiley

Can't give much feedback on how it works with your art without seeing your art.

If I had to pick on any one thing, it's that the darker version is hard to see. You need to up the brightness on everything, make the brights more fluorescent and the darks less low-contrast.
Easy way to do this I think is to just reduce how hard the darkness filter is.
As for the pallete itself, it's kind of dingy and brown. That could work if it's supposed to be a kind of dead area but you should look into some extra colors for props.
For example, given the nuclear waste bits of broken road, fencing, machinery, ruined cars, and bent roadsigns would make for excellent set dressing and color variety tests.

Making the game specific palette before you make the art is rather backward. Ideally you should develop the palette along with the art, continually adding to it and tweaking it as needed.

The palette image isn't indexed, has alpha and lots of extra colours hidden by transparency.

If you are going to be using it with lighting effects I'd suggest more contrast so details don't get lost with the post processing.

What manner of dystopia is it?
The healthy verdant green grass doesn't suggest the environmental wasteland that the glowing ooze does.

Thanks for the feedback! I will look definitely look into adding more colours for props, and also changing the contrast of the colours :)
