READ FIRST! - Introduction to the new section

on: January 06, 2016, 09:02:48 am
Pixelation has had a pretty long history. During some of the most active times, the strong sense of community was due to there being an external purpose it was ultimately driving towards.  Back then, it was almost an academy of sorts which you would graduate from and get your first industry jobs at a major company.  Today, there are still a number of pixel projects here and there with significant funding and even one or two small companies keeping it alive, but as an industry pixel art has died off.  That's not to say it's dead entirely.  Where it lives on is in the indie game space.  Art is great for art's sake, but pixel art has always been a bit more about *applied* art.  To give pixelation a sense of purpose back, we want to embrace the mediums where pixel art still thrives.

Here you can post your Game Dev or other projects for critique and feedback.  This includes tools, animation projects, sketchbooks, etc.
  • Only one thread per project allowed, multiple threads for the same project will be locked or merged.
  • We strongly suggest that projects are pixel-art related, but it won't be enforced.

Can we have a single user thread too? A lot of us are very scatterbrained and have many little ideas that never mount up to full projects but are still interesting to share (I'm talking about myself here if that wasn't clear :p )

Sure! Sketchbooks, Journals, etc are definitely allowed if that's what you mean.

Yeah, like Game Dev journals is pretty much what I meant :)

I might participate in a game jam soon. Is this section also for the results of things like that?

This board is within the critique section, so sure, as long as you're ok with getting and hopefully implementing that critique.

If you don't want critique and never want to look at your game again there's always this thread that was kept alive for quite some time.

Perhaps at some point a new sticky with a with a collated list of member's finished games or tools would be neat, if there was any demand for it. Screenshots and download links within spoilers, etc.
