[WIP] Tree (So many trees topics!)

on: January 17, 2011, 06:34:14 am
I'm new to these forums, and I pixelled this tree trying to learn how to shade and do pixel art in general. I havn't finished the background yet, nor do I know what to add to it.
C+C will be appreciated!

Now here is my current tree:

The grass is terrible, I really don't know how to do it.

Thanks very much for your time.

EDIT: I tried making a background - it looked good in my head but it didn't come across well. It was meant to be water with a city behind it (I don't know how to do the water). I think it's a backwards step :-[

edit ptoing: i fixed the links for you, you have to use the direct link not the link to the imageshack page. Cheers.

It's looking good so far, and I think the grass is fine in my opinion.

However I think that the colors need a little fixing.

Remember: contrast! You have good contrast here, but there are two colors that look almost alike! If you replace them with one color, that will lower the color count, and that's a good thing.

Another thing, more hue shifting! Don't be afraid to try out completely different colors, because remember, you can always change them!

Here's a little edit of mine (I put some AA on the tree to see how it looks):

Thanks for the reply, Clovvach!
I tried to add some contrast and I changed the grass color:

I didn't want to drastically change the hues like on yours, and I didn't want to use another color to AA since the greens make the shadow look strange.

I'm pretty sure it's 8 colours at the moment, but there may have been a pixel or 2 that I missed when I recolored because I just use the eraser tool on MS paint. Is there a way to do a color count?

Your pictures are broken. XD

and I'm not experienced with MS paint, but with fireworks there is!

Fireworks says 10 colors on the first picture including black and white. I reduced it to 9 colors in my edit.

also, I didn't use an extra color for the AA, I just reused one. ;)

EDIT: I reuploaded and they still wont work! i'm using
Code: [Select]
[img] [/img] but apparently they don't like me  :(
