You've finally made it through the Coastal Cavern. That long, slightly claustrophobic tunnel transition from the northern half of the map into the southern Highlands is a rite of passage in Hogwarts Legacy. But once the salty air of the Poidsear Coast hits your character's face, the completionist anxiety usually kicks in. You look at the map counter.
Eight chests. Only eight? Seems easy. Honestly, it should be. But players constantly message me because their counter is stuck at 6/8 or 7/8, and they’ve flown over every inch of the coastline twice. Usually, the "missing" ones aren't even out in the open world—they're tucked away in a place you can't even enter until the story says so.
Why You Can't Find All 8 Poidsear Coast Collection Chests Yet
If you are early in your southern exploration, stop looking for the last two chests. Just stop. You are wasting your Floo Powder.
Two of the eight poidsear coast collection chests are locked inside the Phoenix Mountain Cave. You literally cannot walk into this dungeon until you progress Deek’s storyline. Specifically, you need to reach the quest Phoenix Rising. If you haven't rescued a certain majestic fire bird for your Room of Requirement yet, your map will never show 100% for this region.
I’ve seen people glitching against the mountain walls trying to find a secret entrance. Don't be that person. Just play the game. Once Deek gives you the quest, the cave opens, and the chests are yours.

The "Easy" Six: Bandit Camps and Ruins
The other six chests are scattered across the actual landscape, mostly residing in Bandit Camps. Pro tip: if you see a purple icon on your mini-map, there is probably a collection chest nearby. These don't just give you random gear; they give you Conjuration Recipes for your Room of Requirement or Attribute Traits for your clothing.
Poidsear Castle
This is the big one. It's a massive ruin teeming with loyalists and Ashwinders.
- The Spot: Head to the northwest corner of the castle.
- The Context: It’s sitting right next to some boring old barrels.
- The Reward: Usually a trait to make your spells hit harder.
The Western Camps (Upper and Lower)
There are two small bandit camps on the western cliffs.
- Upper Western Camp: Look for a tent filled with birdcages. It's a bit macabre, but the chest is right there by the campfire.
- Lower Western Camp: Follow the southern path down from the first camp. There's another small setup. The chest is in the western-most tent.
The Southern and Eastern Outposts
If you track along the southern coast near the bridge, you'll find a camp tucked away. The chest is inside the main tent. It’s almost always guarded by a couple of executioners who really don't want you touching their stuff.
Further east, near the Marunweem Bridge, there’s another small camp. Check the tent near the cart tracks. If you’ve been clearing these as you go, you should be sitting at 6/8.
The Northern Bandit Camp
This one is located just south of the Phoenix Mountain Cave entrance. It’s a broken-down tent setup. The chest is actually outside the tent this time, which is a nice change of pace.
Diving Into Phoenix Mountain Cave
Okay, so you’ve triggered Phoenix Rising. You’re inside the cave. This place is a maze of cobwebs and wooden scaffolding.
Chest #7 is behind a massive spiderweb. You’ll need Incendio or Confringo (obviously). After you break through a stone barrier with a blasting charm, keep an eye on your right. There's a side path blocked by more webs. Burn them down, and the chest is tucked in the shadows.
Chest #8 is much further in. You’ll eventually reach a large, circular cavern where the path splits. Don't just follow the quest marker toward the phoenix. Look for a side tunnel in the southeastern part of this chamber. It’s hidden behind—you guessed it—more webs and some crates.
Expert Note: If you finish the quest and realize you missed these, you can go back. The cave doesn't seal shut. Just fast travel to the Phoenix Mountain Cave Floo Flame and walk back in.
Common Mistakes and Glitches
I hear a lot of talk about "bugged" chests. While Hogwarts Legacy has its quirks, the poidsear coast collection chests are rarely actually bugged.
Sometimes, the map counter doesn't update immediately. If you've opened all eight and it still says 7/8, try fast-traveling to Hogsmeade and back. It usually forces the game to recount the inventory flags.
Also, remember that Collection Chests are different from the standard hexagonal treasure chests. Collection chests are the gold-trimmed ones that look a bit more "fancy." If you open a chest and get a pair of generic spectacles, that wasn't a collection chest. Those don't count toward your region completion.
Making the Most of Your Loot
Once you have these, don't just let them sit in your menu. Go back to your Enchanted Loom. The traits you find in these coastal camps are often Level 2 or Level 3.
- Concentration III is the holy grail.
- Unforgivable III is great if you're leaning into the Dark Arts.
- Ambush III is underrated for those who like using Disillusionment.
Your To-Do List for 100% Completion
If you're staring at your screen wondering what to do next, follow this order. It's the most efficient way to clear the Poidsear Coast without backtracking a dozen times.
- Clear the Bandit Camps first. Start at the Poidsear Castle Floo Flame and work your way in a clockwise circle around the coast.
- Ignore the cave until the "Phoenix Rising" quest appears in your log. It’s a waste of time to try and force it early.
- Check your Room of Requirement. If you're missing a specific rug or a gothic table, check your "Highlands" collection count. Poidsear is a huge chunk of that.
- Use Revelio while on your broom. If you fly high enough and cast Revelio, the chest icons will pop up from a significant distance, even if they aren't marked on the permanent map yet.
Get those camps cleared out. The gear traits alone make the combat in the final acts of the game significantly smoother. Once you have all eight, you're one step closer to that elusive Platinum trophy or 100% achievement.
Next Step: Head to your map and hover over the Poidsear Coast region. If it says 6/8 and you haven't done the Phoenix quest, go talk to Deek in the Room of Requirement to kick off the final stretch.
