YES! thankyou, i was thinking wolverine cuz i remembered the pic he made of someone resembling wolverine. i like how there are "splotches" of color on the face and i might try to work something like that into this later.

I don't understand what this is supposed to be at all. You draw a lot of robed figures and stuff. I urge you to try a few more challenging topics where volumetrics can't be faked, and if you insist on drawing robes and monks and stuff in the process of being robed, do put a blanket over a chair and study how fabric folds drape.

heh, i do occasionaly do studies of fabric folds, i wish we could do more in art class there fun. but i do try to fix stuff occasionally, like the second layer i fixed a number of times before i was remotely happy with it. i think some folds are just to linear and/or exagerated.
have any suggestions for subject matter where i cant draw it from plein air?

Looking at this confuses me alot, I *think* its a WIP, but its  hard to critique with out any coloring and only partial shading. The shaded part looks quite alien or shell-like rather. But from what I'm reading from Helm's posts, its cloth?... *confused*

yeah, i think im going to dismiss this sprite. yeah its a wip and it was supposedly a being held in a rob, cloth, and a hood. i was just inspired to try that 2x2 dithering style :P

I belive the point of this kind of shading is to merge many diferently hued shades, so I think you're really not learning anything by doing it in harsh B&W.

do you understand now why we thought what you did with your first pics here was so pointless? we had all seen hordes of demoscene stuff before you came here, so your stuff just striked us as a bad attempt at merging many hues.

hah, yeah. im going to redo this piece after an art project im working on now, it will mainly be the same character but i will be using a model so that i can appropriately do the folds more realisticly.

gonna sound weird... but I kind of like it as it is... I don't care what it's supposed to be... looks a bit like some kind of weird thing from a sandman comic... all dreamy and surreal with phallic overtones... Blow it up... project it onto a canvas, paint it - finish it - turn it upside down and stick it on your wall... it's a piece of art my man!

wow, thanks means alot coming from pro. the "phallic overtones" part scares me tho, as i did not INTEND that at alll but hey, art is all about getting a response fromt the viewer.

I'd shade the rest like the mid fold in the robe. I think the shading on that is awesome. The dithering pattern is really awesome too.

I think robed figures are fine but you seem to be going more robe than figure with this one. I'd add an actual face and some arms. Then maybe when you're done, he could have a fireball or something below him to make a really cool lighting effect on the face.

I agree with Helm also. I hacen't seen a lot of your work but I can judge from this and say I think you're a good shader and could and should do more than just fabric folds and robes.

I would AA the top part, then leave it. That would be sweet. Maybe add some crazy colours if you'd like, heh.
