Squirrel and Turtle

on: October 28, 2009, 02:11:23 am
Lately, I have been making a side scroller and the two main characters are a squirrel and a turtle. I need some help!
(the turtle is riding on his shell)

I got one baddy done; a robot bee thing.

Also, a mockup of the game with a background and ground tiles.

please C&C
 :)

I like the concepts.
The jet flames look like wagging tales rather than flame. Green in center seems an odd choice.
The turtle is riding a shell, but what does the fox have, I can't tell.
Bee wing animation makes no sense. They flap slowly like bird wings. I assume nothing but a lightning fast motion blur will do here. If the bee was thrusting his stinger forward instead of positioned with it pointing backwards it would look more threatening. Are they mechanical?

I believe the squirrel is riding on an acorn?

Also, I'm going to have to agree that the motion blur to the wings would definitely make the bee's animation a bit more "realistic", as well as perhaps editing the flames to be more 'straight' than 'waggy' like the quoted member said, unless you have intentionally created the 'wagging' effect, in which case the flames would be fine.. lol sorry for almost essentially reiterating this post I quoted ^.^;

Cool looking game, looks very original.

For the flames, they should animate by getting small and bigger, not wagging. And for motion blur, remember that the blur should Start where your object was the last time it was seen without blur. You should also blur the wings on the way up.

Thanks for all the critique!  Before I animate the wings for the bee, I wanted to get his position right.

I'll post the fire animation later tonight or tomorrow morning.

And yes, the squirrel is riding on an acorn. Mathias, the green you were talking about was like a light blue, I'll make it a bit darker so people don't think it is green.

Oh wow, it is light blue. The yellow adjacent makes it look blue - rock on Color Theory.

Here's the zinger bee enemy from Donkey Kong Country

(and sorry it's a squirrel, not a fox, derrr)

edit* It works now thanks Mathias!

edit#2* realized the turtles mouth was a bit funky cause i deleted a frame

also, update on fire animation. I'm not sure if the flames get too small or not.

Okay, update on bee.

is this any better? i think it might be too busy on the left side because of the arm, but i tried to take his arm away and it doesn't look right.

Thanks guys!
