You could probably make it more obvious its a pixel, even after I read your post I didnt understand :-[ Maybe colouring it with red, green and blue or something might make it more clear. And the cracks dont help with the pixel thing, maybe a pattern representing the gaps between subpixels would make it more pixel like and more interesting.

Also his legs are a big problem, on that angle I doubt youd see any of his feet and I think thats partialy whats throwing it off.

I liked the old one better, guy pushing a pixel through a desert or whatever seems cooler to me. New one seems like your dumming it down (as in trying to make the pixel pushing reference TO obvious) and probably leaves less room to make it more interesting.

i could make it a dude pushing brightly cool colored blocks through the desert, ad some cracks so on so on? personally i think the first one is more clearer of the point

i thought up a way to make us both happy, i sort of like it like that too, ill add cracks and so on now?

and i thought with the spare cubes, they join before theyre not in place so what makes those random cubes so different that they dont?

If you did this well, the resulting peice would have a nice use somewhere, I'm sure.

I think it should be animated - have a bunch of guys pushing together iso blocks to make a space invader or some other stereotypical pixel thing, not a 50/50 dither pattern, people will just think "checkboard" when they see it. Also, I think adding detail to the cubes, like cracks, does detract from the overall effect. Why complicate it? It's a common downfall to clutter in unnecessary detail, don't fall into that trap. Your concept will get dilluted. Go for some less bland shading

good idea, ill try it, ive always wanted to do iso and animating, :D so this is a perfect opportunity.

as for the shading, what do you mean? should i plonk up the contrast or saturation?

i havent done a super amount of work in it, schools starting up again stopping my progress.

i think that the cracks should go over the individual pixels, i think that woul be more correct, since each pixel is different

The main problem this has atm is that it looks VERY boring. You should try to shade your blocks more interestingly and give them little tints and highlights and all that good stuff.

Also, your blocks are not square.

Keep on pushing.

There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.
