Newcomer

on: January 14, 2009, 03:32:10 am
Hey there.

My name is Chris Beamond, 18 years of age from the land of Australia. I've messed around with alot of different digital works (3d to Pixelart, flash to html, web design to app development). I've always quite enjoyed pixel art, I love how it seems to zap me in and I can spend some time on a piece.

I learnt pixelart by some tutorial, but I can't find it any more. This is the first scene I made.
Some others may have something similar to this - the last task of the tutorial is to make a kitchen.

A little later I did this mostly out of boredom. Learnt to keep things in perspective.

Finally the latest one I've done sometime later was this.I'm pretty happy with it... mostly. I had AA issues on the Bridge and on the engine (as you may see). I was going to put this into a hanger and everything, but I thought of doing that only after I finished all the lighting, and I wasn't going to remake most of it just for that.

Pixelart. I enjoy it but it's very time demanding and right now I have more important things to do, which is a shame.
I don't stick to any colour sets or any limitations, minus that I only use fill, straight line and a single-pixel brush.

I'm not really after critiquing, minus for the ship one. I'm just saying hi and showing a few of my works.

Nice isometric art, you have a good sense of direction when it comes to 3-D, nice job!

But you lack things like shadows... maybe a little practice non-isometric?
Practice makes perfect though!

Thankyou. If by shadows you mean the kitchen, well yes. I remember the tutorial didn't actually include that, just self-shadowing =\. Thanks for the point though.

This is pretty good, but there's a major issue going on with the spaceship thing.  On the cockpit, for the side facing us, there's a wall, and it.... Oh, never mind. Here:

Make sense? Only real flaw I noticed, the rest looks good.  Did you draw the gradients on the box?

Ah. That's a pretty serious flaw :P Thanks for pointing it out.

Yep. I did the box gradients too.
If you look on the inside of the box, the darker part should be going downwards or something.
Just these little nagging things in all of them, unfortunately. =[ But on the whole I don't think they're that bad.
