What I do is pick out different colours for different parts. Then do the lineart, put the real colours in etc.

Hi Balls - I've made you an edit which hopefully you'll find helpful :) albeit a rushed one, especially the hair which i did at no zoom and with the biggest ms paint brush haha.

Right, please loose your black outlines! they're really restricting you, especially on the nose.

You seem to be sticking to how, conventionally, a face should look. study your reference more to try and capture your subjects' personality and character.

hope this helps - Rob.

ps - i like your warm colour choices for the skin :)

edit: actually i think i've gone too mad on the white highlights :(

he almost certainly means loose as in 'a misspelling' :D
If you insist on being pessimistic about your own abilities, consider also being pessimistic about the accuracy of that pessimistic judgement.

Somebody's already said so but get rid of those outlines, they're restricting you, and not necessarily restricting you in the right way. For instance the lips aren't the right shape, the eyes aren't close enough together, etc...

Just try to pay closer attention and her emphasize her appealing details, and flesh them out more. Also, like `Rob said, try to capture her personality and character. Just something you shouldn't forget as you move forward.

Personally I'd like to see you progress more, color everything in, start on some of the other details, before I, and maybe others, can give better critique. There's just not a lot to crit on right now.
