My Pirate Head

Hey, I've just joined thie forum.
I've pixeled quite a few things but never really been able to reach the level that most of you guys seem to be at. So, I figured I'd take a crack at poisting some of my stuff here and looking for how to to improve it. Maybe I can get better at this .
So, to start

is a pirate head for the Pixel Joint comp.

Not even sure if ill enter it, just wanna make it look good.

I'm not sure if I add some improvement, but at least some changes.
Your pirate reminds me of Loriot figures, which inspired me in the first place.
I changed mouth position to some less dull, then I am missing his eyes, so I added glasses. Those may create too much intellectual appearance, thus may be compensated by a scar.

looks rather flat... is there meant to be alot of contrast or is in meant to be like disneys aladin where hes only got 2 skin color?
