I think you've chisseled those muscles in there pretty definately haven't ya, looks very un-natural to me imho. It's pretty hard to work at this scale because fitting in all the details you want is almost impossible, just try work on the readability, hint want you're going for and im sure it'll come across much better than trying to hammer every nook and cranny in there.

I've made a little edit if im allowed, not sure whether you'd agree with slight style changes for the character but I just wanted to focus on representing the body to be a tad bit more readable.

>>

Also altered the palette a tad, trying to make it seem a bit more natural.

Changed the feet too, wasn't sure what this guy is gonna be used for, a platformer? But something is quite ambigious about the whole posture anyway, just needs to loosen up imo.

Oh and I don't think there's need to outline the beard, if anything a shadow to make it more visable but outlining things like that can just seem stuck-on and not apart of the face.

Hey Richard,

I have to disagree with some of the edits, longer legs aren't necessary. Especially if you were going for cartoony proportions
But all the highlights and dark shadows make it hard to read. You can fix this by using less colors and defining only some parts of the body.
Also i dislike the use of black inside of a sprite, but that's just me  :P

Here's my edit:

I also edited his right arm (left for the viewer) to make it more readable.

Love the colors  :y:

That's nice, but it was perfectly readable before. The exclusion of black is nice, but taking away the highlights unnecessarily changes the style.

True, the style change is huge. adding some more highlights fixes this a bit.

<-- original minus black lines | mine with highlights -->

nice edit, staying true to his original concept. Looks more like a viking, screw mine.

Hey guys! Thanks for all the edits and crits! I tried to take all of them into account when editing mine. I stuck with rays the most as it was closest to the style I wanted.

how's it look now?

EDIT:

darker version.

you do realize you're not supposed to take someone else's edit and call it your own...
the point of an edit is to help you see another artist's idea on it, and how they would draw it, to help you progress in your original.

using someone's edit like what you're doing is called stealing.

The new edit looks very nice, although what Joseph says is somewhat true.
If you give him some weapons and some armour to make it look less like my edit, I don't mind.

I don't know if I prefere the sark of lighter version...  ???

I didn't take his edit and call it my own. Every pixel was placed by me in that post. If necessary I will redo the sprite to further itself from rays, but I did not simply take his and repost it.
