Nameless game (demo)

on: November 15, 2008, 08:39:19 am
This is my first attempt at using game maker.
I haven't gone too crazy with the art on it yet, still just trying to get the engine to work properly.
Todays progress was wall jumping, glitchy movable crates and falling blocks.

Most recent video of the current demo
I'd post the pure pixels but they aren't much to look at.

You can download the demo here
It is still REDICULOUSLY glitchy, seriously don't expect to play this without doing a manual restart of the level...
W,A,S,D to move and jump
Mouse to aim and shoot
ENTER to restart the level if you've done something that could stop you from completing the level

Here are youtube link of the progress.
v0.1
v0.2
v0.3
v1.0

nice :) infinitely better than my attempts at game making, just like to point out that when you grab onto the diamonds hes holding on with both arms and still has his gun arm, or is the other 'arm' his head?

Other arm is his head yes, I know I've looked at that animation and thought I saw like 5 tentacles and the middle one was holding a gun.
I'd like to get a wall jump animation going as well as an actual jump animation.

Most of this game is just a heap of scripts and tutorials I've found.
So a lot of it is really glitchy.
I may end up trying to remake it from scratch to see if I can actually make it on my own.

Gamemaker is easy to learn, hard to master. As for any code language in general. However, I wish you luck with this :) but do start refining some art soon.

Thought I'd work on the animations a bit.
Keep in mind the gun arm is separate so he has no right arm.

Re-arranged the running frames
->

Added the little foot stall at the end.
Also moved the player over to the left so it looks like he's holding on with just one arm and his head is just to the side.

This game reminds me a little from "N"  ;D

maybe you could take some physics from it and why does your character have a square head !?!?

I own N on my xbox, it's quite fun 4 player.

A comic strip I made was my inspiration for the design.
Though it wasn't intended to be funny, or well thought out I was more just testing styles and trying to learn more dynamic posing.
I may give him hair soon.

This is for another platformer project.
Didn't think it needed a whole new thread.
