honestly I think the image is just too flat, I think you should chose a different position to make it look more interesting
maybe somewhat like this? though you're going to have to use your imagination for the japanese part :hehe:
It's time for racing car video games

Traditionally these gates are constructed of curved elements:

Well, it's not actually a bridge, more like.. a walkthrough- bridge thing.

I'll find a picture of one.

Added a curve, if it's on a background would i need to AA the curves, since they're not that smooth?

In none of the images you've shown me, nor real life examples I have seen, were the corners of the upper beams so rounded. FIx that before indeed adding AA, as it is required at least as much on a slight curve.

You've chosen a VERY boring angle to display your gate, you've added outlines for no reason, your colors are all way too close together, the gate's crossbar is too low.

Well, it's for a platformer i'm making, so it's needs to be flat to a degree.

Sorry if i never mentioned, and well.. i'm kind of stuck on colour ramping/ hue shifting etc.

Any tuts or anything would help :]

Thanks for advice btw.

typically, construction of a Torii (hey! it has a name!) consists of two posts (ascention), a lintel with the curved kasagi (top part representing the spiritual world), and tie beam (the natural world).

As a note, it's perfectly fine to have the characters walk past this gate, but to have characters going through or - jesus - jumping on top of religious structures is not the most respectful thing to do :P.  They represent a transition (artistically, physically, and philosphically) into holy or otherwise peaceful ground, so try to be careful as to where you position them.
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

Well, i wasn't aware of all that, i knew it was something to do with buddism.

Hmm, really.. that was the first thing that came to mind when i thought of Japan x.x

Well, i had a look at that colour post in general Discussion and i think it's brilliant :D

I personally think this one is 100% times better and much more "alive".

C+C please.

This isn't really an edit, obviously, but hopefully it helps still.  Points I am attempting to convey:

1 - Pick a more interesting angle, I don't care if its for a platformer.  However, you may not want to use MY angle because I really screwed up the perspective of the top portion especially :P

2 - CURVES

3 - LIGHT SOURCE

4 - VALUES - you're painting with basically full-saturation red on a white background.  Even though I only used 5 colors I used a much broader range of values from the color spectrum and conveyed more depth.

You are ready to move beyond crayola coloring books, my friend!
