Where is the lightsource? It looks like it's coming from above on the face, but his hair, which I'm assuming is a cylinder with a flat top, has a different lightsource.
If I'm reading it right, that the hair is flat on the top and angled towards us, then the top should be the lightest part. If It's not flat, then I have no idea what's going on there.

This is a good first piece!  The palette is pretty nice.  Sherman is right though, your hair should be brighter on top than in front for the lighting overall to make sense.  You should also push your colors more - the hair colors are very gray compared to the rest of your palette, they should be more saturated I think.

I decided to abandon the whole cylindrical hair thing. I'm going to work on the colours now.  :y:

its weird how the hair has no outline but the face does, i would try either eliminateing both or giving the hair an outline.

Here's another update, added an outline like artisan said and I completely changed the colour of the hair.

I would say make the outline on the top of the head a lot lighter or make it fade into that color, I would try to critique it a bit better but the new firefox is terrible

looking much better, i agree with winston, the part where the light hits the most.. eg the top of the hair, if you make the outline slightly lighter it helps with the effect that light is hitting it there... also there is a dark line between the head and the ears... maybe bring the ears in by 1 pixel and eliminate this dark line it makes them seem kinda seperate.... that should help i think.

I didn't quite understand what you meant about the ear, but I tried.
Also made the top outline lighter like you guys said.
