Welcome to pixelation!

I couldn't see your images directly, so for people having the same issue, here goes:

Link
Now the temporal bone isn't a big gaping hole, it's merely flat, compared to the round skull it creates that effect of a hole. The mandible connects between the temporal bone, and a ridge of which I forgot the name (think it comes from the zygomatic bone), however, that ridge is still part of the cranium of the skull. You missed out on that, it has to create a gap between itself and the templar bone.

The ridge can be identified with this image:

(not by me, don't get confused there)

Even though improved, I think you can take this further. Add more shape to the teeth, as for the side view, they start pointing out forwards too high. And still there is a black line at the edge of the zygomatic bone, while really that continues in a ridge, that merges with the temporal bone in the end. I'm too tired to do an edit, but may try something later tomorrow.

I didn't use a reference, but the exact anatomy is not the point of my edit. (it's more about technique than it is about the subject matter here. I kinda fudged your design into something I like, it's cool, it's cool ;D)

What I wanted to get across was contrast. I'm not a fan of dithering :-\, but I used it to show you when it's appropriate. Your colors are so close together you could have just smooth shaded. When you need to dither is when the two colors are so far apart they create an unwanted visual schism on your piece. So you mix the two in a checker pattern [or other atrocious way  ::)] and the two colors have a baby. ;)

Also, try to build form rather than shape. If you make forms clear, it does the job of any outline you make plus some.

Don't let anything like that hinder you or you'll never get better!
The criticism might seem harsh but it's really intended o help you, not to make you feel bad. A lot of folks don't know how to take constructive criticism all that well  :hehe:

Tried to fix the teeth and shortened the black line given feedback earlier, also corrected the hight of the nose and added some stronger highlight in some places
