The walker has a neat use of contrast, soft outlines and all
Then the cagu has super harsh black outlines, bad use of colours, it doesn't look like a round body at all, rather a super thin oval.
What you need to do first is keep up style constency. Modify the cago to 'compete' with the walker, before you start fixing any other errors.

In the walker I can see a lack of anti alias in the leg 'pins' as well as that the leg to the (viewers) far right has the cylinder above the pin completely out of perspective or at a wrong angle.

Showing it as it should appear in game would be neat.

And even if it were a daytime view, xestro's edit has merit.

I understand.

As for showing in-game screenings we'll have to wait til a later time, as the true extent of the feature can't be shown as it's a variable on variable time string.

But I can create a mock-simulation of what the peek points of the day cycles would be.

If you made the latter and the first sprite, the middle sprite is definately made by another artist. If you made the middle sprite, send the other artist here and do his work untill he learned cause that middle sprite is much better. Now about that latter sprite. Its amount of colours is HUGE, and it volumes are very very poorly defined. I quickly painted over this piece to give it more depth. Perhaps it has a too high contrast for your tatses, and I certainly don't say this is perfect and flawless, but at least it demonstrates that less colours can give a result with better depth.

TrevoriuS: Your edit looks worse. It's noisy and messy and doesn't really have any more depth than the original.

Note to self: never post 4 minute drafts made on a touchpad before your class starts  :ouch:
Okay, Evil-Ville, who him what you've got then instead of critisizing my critisism (which is offtopic)  :D

Your work shows a lot of evidence of working from outlines and adding shadows and highlights to edges.  This is not a good way to work, because generally areas of shadow and light describe form far more than outlines do.  Aside from that I don't think the black interior lines are working and they look noisy, like these black lines running along the animal's back crystal do not seem to help showing the planes of the crystal.  Black lines like this come across as very dark, nonsensical shadow.

I'm trying to show you what I mean with my edit here.  In addition to generally using more contrasting shades, I am portraying your animal as if it were made of actual physical shapes like a cylinder and a sphere.  My rendering is not the most accurate and I may have misinterpreted the shape of his limbs, but do you catch my drift?  If there is a single light source one side of a form must always be in light and another in shadow.  I think you owe it to your character design to try and make it appear solid, and not flat like a cookie.

I just read that the crystal is not a crystal but a fish spine.  Silly me!
Like this?

If so I think your anatomy could use some work, but you can also suggested these spinelings running along the fin just by using the dark and light shade of the fin.

Without transparency you can use shading to suggest translucence by making it go from dark to light from the base to the end of the fins, as the thin parts would let more light through.

on the teroc, the body needs a bit of shading on the chest, and the head... well i think you could lose all the spikes from the back of the head (the shoulder ones are okay) the spikes make it hard to define exactly where the neck is and the thing on top seems conflicting (think of it on a different angle). lastly you need to fix up the light on the tip of the tail and on the shoulder spikes

one last point, your sprites are all in different styles, you really need to get all your artists to work in a similar style.

I was given permission by Antaros to put my work here for critique, as he needs to go to bed and is probably tired of critiquing it now.  :blind:

This is most likely the final version. Any crit?
