what is your intent with this?  It may help to show a bit more progress so we can critique properly.  At this point there's not much to go on

OOOOoooooh...  Agreed. And I'l ad some shorter furs and update texture.



Any other suggestions? I was thinking a few simple marks.

this is a pretty good start!  his fur should be 1-2 pixels long at most, those long strands look very odd.The brightest color in the piece if only what, 50% bright?  You definitely need more range than that!

You could however, make the fur 'layered' as if it was 'cartoon shaded' - so you just shade it like a smooth skin, without dithering, and then add a sawtooth like edge (which should look natural above all) to simulate fur. It will look about as long as it does now, but with premises that make it convincing.
