[WIP] Purple Spaceship

on: May 02, 2008, 03:31:30 pm
My art teacher yesterday was demonstrating some tools in photo shop and I spotted a shape I liked, so quickly jotted it down in paint (that's the black squiggles on the right).
When I got home I had a shot at pixeling it, and I'm reasonably pleased with it.
This is my resulting pixel:

The main problem I am annoyed with is the edges - they look... well... pixely...
So any suggestions on that would be great, but looking for any criticism in general as anything I do is just to improve my skills for the moment.

Thanks  ;D

...love these emoticons.  :P

edit 2: YAY!  ;D
edit 3: Most recent pixel:

Not really getting where your light source is coming from.
Really the only edit on this worth taking a look at is the cockpit.
If that is a cockpit that is.

Thanks Souly

Any better?

The orange square represents what I'm TRYING to do with my light-source. LOL!
The cockpit is meant to be two separate window bobbles over the cone/cylinder nose...
the extra shades of highlight might help bring that out a bit clearer I hope?

edit: Still need advice on the nasty outline... and also how to make it seem more battle-scarred without extra colours - I tried to do this with little kinks in the shapes of the shadows... but not sure if it just looks scruffy  :-\

Small edit to show what you can do with a little cleaning..

I've simplified the cockpit design for readability-reasons. I think you should either simplify it or add a few more shades to make it readable

wow nice edit philipptr - thanks.

I tried to follow your example and neaten things up a bit, but at the same time I am trying to make it look slightly more beaten-up so not sure how well that's working  :-\
I have neatened up the cockpit a bit though and I think that looks a bit better now.
Still worried with the edges of the ship though, where they meet the background.

Any comments?
