Something On and Off

on: April 15, 2008, 10:59:37 pm
Need critique on this, already posted it elsewhere but figure it might get a bit more action with another post. I know there are some things to fix, but need help on how to fix them.

The jaggies, they burn!
It's great, except for the white selout on the hand without buffer shades :(

Here's an edit of Xion's edit:

With another color you could smoothen it out even more. Skipping straight from the yellow to white there's too much of a value gap to get a consistent line so like in Xions it will thin out in areas without the white.

Which reminds me, what's with the 14 or so colors in the background? It looks alright, but pretty inefficient for something you could almost do with say, six. (Of course, color count doesn't matter too much in this day and age and you seem to know what you're doing with them)

Well Xion already fixed the first thing I saw, and I can't see Sherman's edit...
I think the hair is really, really rough. All the colors in there clash hard against each other and ends up looking like cheese with knife slits in it or something. It just doesn't feel like hair.

Thanks for the edits, that's helpful guys. I think I'll fix the sel-out problem, but I don't know about the hair. I tried to keep the palette low and make it interesting, according to color/light theory the hair should be okay, if you want to make suggestions or edit the palette on the hair feel free, I want this one to be right. I kind of like the shading on the hair, though I know it's a bit noisy, what do you think would look more natural?

The palm is possibly a little longer then it should be, but other then that the hand looks correct.

My guess is this was done from a picture?
