Hey, this is great! Just a few of things i notice about it:
1: He looks off balance. Having his back straight (Actually, it looks like he's leaning forward) and his arms thrust out is a hard pose to achieve, especially if he's a fighter.
2:His fists should be clenched, unless he's trying to break a board or something.
3: Are you using a photo reference? it looks pretty good, but a reference WILL help.

4: What is this for? Just practice, or for a game?
and 5: He's pillow shaded.  :-\ (Meaning there is no direct light source)
As for the face and colors, ill do an edit later to see if i can help more.

I'm kinda new here too.  :)

Also I agree with coran.

First of all you should get ride of that pillow shading, it really makes thigns look worse, secondly add lightsource.

Here is some quick and rough edit I made, I'm not really good at helping when it comes to anatomy, but here's some thoughts I think that might help you.

edit: messing around ~

Welcome to the boards 00x  :)

I like your character. He looks like a wrestler to me.

As mentioned, he is pillowshaded, but he also feels a bit cluttered. I believe it's because you've tried to convey everything with lines.
It's better to use volumes, especially on sprites this size since there's not much room for actual lines.

As for drawing heads (and anatomy in general) I'd suggest to get a hold of some books by Andrew Loomis. It's very good stuff and will help you considerably.
Looking at what you're currently doing I'd suggest the book "Fun with a Pencil"

I also did an edit of your sprite. I tried changing his legs posing a little as well, to give him a more wrestler-y appearance.  :P
I also flattened his feet. Since he's so small it looked like he didn't really stand on anything.
EDIT// I meant, since the character is so small it's okay to make the feet flat. Makes i look more like they are actually standing on something.

You've got some good critique here, I made a rushed edit on paint to initially just alter his balance and suggest a directional light souce, you guys have beat me with more in-depth critiques. Wasn't trying to stray so far from your original but what the hey, im suggesting this as a small step forward.

Have a bit more contrast with your colours, lighter lights, darker darks. so you're forms are easier to control on a character this size. Theres no need to shade from the outside in, its a small sprite so I wouldn't waste any space cluttering it up with that.

Other small changes were to pull his arm closer to his body, pull up his groin a pixel or two shortening his chest and giving him slightly longer legs. Also think in your version his head is too far right.
Hope any of it helps, you have a few different perspectives on this, just be open minded and use what ever helps to push this along.

I think Terley's edit says "fighter" more than the others, unless you're going for a grappling stance.  It also has much better balance, as he pointed out.

FANTASTIC.
You're doing much better.
Q though:
whats that multicolored thing on his arm?
It doesn't look like a tat, unless that's not what it's supposed to be. :-[
As promised, an edit will come later. :D
Seriously.
Oh, and his chin disappears into his body.  Other than that though, as said, FANTASTIC.
