They make more sense, but I find the previous version to be much more attractive, and I would highly advise that you keep if, but it is of course your choice.

I'm not going to pretend this is a small task either; certainly none of us here can claim to have accomplished it.  it's the realm of masters.  still, it's what we all have to try for.

The older one was able to make it look not just like plain cloth but like awesome magic cloth.  The newer one looks much less awesome design-wise, albeit more accurate.  Really, I think it's more important for it to look good stylistically than for it to make more sense in terms of actual cloth.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm gonna go for the first, original version as final. It has the most appeal.

It has the most appeal? You're not studying actual folds, you're doing an abstract rendition of them that doesn't work at all. The colors are nice and they hide flaws, but you should do lots lots lots more studies on clothes and especially the way they drape and attempt this again.

Indeed, this is true. I did have another version actually which I didn't post here.

Which I think is alot more realistic, but I just didn't like the pixeling its self that much.

This is better but it still has folds that don't make any sense in my opinion. Have you seeked reference?

I don't think those are drape-y enough to be reference for a ring wraith.

Try these:

This one is super huge but I think best shows the front: click.

Whether or not the finished looks physically correct, I still like it.... the styles, colors, etc. But if you feel like improving it after the fact, I think more up and down folds would be the way to go. I don't have a way to show you an edit right now... but hopefully you can tell what I mean by the references provided. Great job, though. :)

Whoops, my bad for not reading the title carefully.

The latest version just more like monk's cloth than Ring Wraith's, thus the misunderstanding

I think you have bigger problems than folds here...it is nearly impossible for my eyes to separate the figure from the background currently.  It is a VERY flat composition without any thought given to how to draw the viewer's eye to any particular part of the painting.  The trees especially have very similar silhouettes and contrast levels, and your figure gets lost in them very easily.  IMO if you stick with the first version and just work on the composition you will have a very strong piece, regardless of imperfections in your clothing studies.
