Aperture Science Weighted Companion Cube!

on: January 01, 2008, 10:41:09 pm
Hey people- first post and whatnot-
I've been doing pixel work for a few years now- started of editing sprites and stuff, but I mostly do scratch work now..
The tools I use aer MS Paint and Photoshop- though mainly for transparency and layering sometimes.

This is fairly recently, worked on and off on it for a few days at college in spair time-
For those of you who have played Portal you will recognise this iconic cube! XD

C&C Is welcome, and it's good to be here! ^^

I think anyone who's been around a trendshit nerd in the last few months will recognize this symbol  :mean:
You've banded around the circle in the middle. You will want to change that..
It does look pretty decent but not exactly 'metal'.
it might be a one shot deal

Well, the banding in the middle is there as there is depth in the centre..
As for the none metal look, it oesnt look metally ingame either! XD

he just means that any staggering of the shades would be better than just expand by single pixel "banding"
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

A quick edit approaches!
Mine ->  <- Yours

First off, as other guys already said, banding is bad! No excuses. >:(
The thing below mine is a comparison showing non-banded (mine) and banded (you's). Since I'm lazy, the arrow (that you can only see when zoomed in) is facing the wrong way, and the crops are only at 1x so they're kind of hard to see. In case you didn't know though, this forum has a zoom function so you can click on an image to zoom, and ctrl+click to unzoom.

Next up! your indent is shaded wrong. Mine ain't the best way of doing it, but on an indent, while one side receives less sunlight, the opposing side will receive more, so yours, which is shaded all the way around, is... well, wrong.
Oh yes naked women are beautiful
But I like shrimps more haha ;)
