Once again, December is almost upon us, and that means it's about time for our Secret Santa Activity.

For those that are not familiar with this activity, the Secret Santa is pretty much an annonymous gift exchanging activity.
The participants will be assigned someone they will have to make a gift for, but at the same time they do not get to know who they are going to be receiving one from, making it a thrilling activity.
In our case the gifts will be pixel gifts, and only those that previously signed up on this thread will be able to participate.
If all this caught your attention, please keep reading


Some things you should be aware of:

• Those willing to participate in the Secret Santa must post in this thread with a message on the lines of "I sign up".
  Posts with questionable replies will be ignored, so please be clear to avoid confusion
• When signing up, please put a few facts about you, anything you like/dislike, hobbies, etc... to make gift making easier.
• You may only sign up if you know 100% that you will be able to make a gift for your partner.
  If anyone signs up and does not deliver a present by December 23rd, he/she will not only be publicly humiliated, but also will be banned from these forums until I feel like it. I might give a little mercy, but you will need a really good excuse and a lot of luck (and I mean A LOT), so don't count much on it.
  Please think ahead and be responsible and do not let you partner down. Additionally if you don't come up with a gift at all, your participation on next year's Secret Santa will be forbidden.
• If you are Adarias, roobv, DrNoodles, rabidbaboy, xegnma, Sohashu or Noveroth, I forbid you to participate in this activity. 
  Unless you pixel last year's gift as an audition for this year's Secret Santa. You will have until November 30th.

The Sign-up for this activity starts today (November 23rd) and will last until November 30th.
So, if you want to take part on this, don't hesitate and do so before it is too late. 
I will be flexible with timezones, but anyone that signs up too late will be excluded.

When this part is over, you will receive a PM (on December 1st) with the name of the person you are in charge of. 
Then you will have until December 23rd to come up with a gift for your partner. 
As stressed before, if you signed please be responsible and do not let anyone down.
Once you are done with your present, feel free to PM it to me.

• November 23rd~November 30th - Secret Santa Sign-up
• December 1st - PM Send-out (You will receive your partner's name)
• December 23rd - Last day to send your gift (Please PM them to Robot Santa)

Q&A

What do you mean by "Pixel Gift"?
There is no specific "Gift". Simply pixel something you would like to give your partner. It can be an avatar, an animation, a whole scene, some fan art, etc... whatever, anything goes as long as it is pixelled.

I will be away on December 23rd, Can I still participate in this activity?
You do not have to wait until the last day for submitting your gifts, so as long as you deliver it in time (meaning before or on December 23rd), you are all good to go.
(Actually I would recommend all the participants to send me your gifts as you are done with them)

Can I pixel you something even though you are not my partner?
Sure, feel free to pixel extra gifts for anyone if you have some extra time, but first focus on your actual partner.

I couldnt finish my gift... can I send you a WIP?
Yes, but you must finish it as soon as you can. If I catch you slacking and not finishing it at all, you will be punished.

I really like creative interpretations of a character of mine, Ekyra. She's Goddess of Gravity, she's got dark curly hair with golden decorations, she wears mostly red (and purple) and she is always holding onto a potion bottle called 'phoenix elixir'. Hope that's not too specific. Edit: Meaning, anything that's remotely inspired by her would be fun (phoenix, potion, mythology, rpg mockup, temple etc.).

Then I will run this once, and I will "overwrite" the numbers (let's say the new list says 34, 21 45... then the person who was 1 now gets 34, the person with 2 will be 21, etc...)
And lastly I will rerun the random sequence generator, this time to pick the order (everyone will be chained).

I haven't posted anything in here since... last year's secret santa! This past year has just been so crazy for me. I really miss pixelling tough, and what better way to pixel other than in the coolest activity of the year? it's just lineart?  i would do that no question, or just live with the nearest-neighbor distortion because it will be gone by the time you finish the piece anyhow

here's what you do. You index the palette so it's the colors you'll use. Save this palette. Then you go back to rgb colors, and rotate freely in photoshop or something. When satisfied with new positioning, reapply the saved palette so it goes back to the limited amount of colors and you don't get any silly 3002342356 shades of a single color because you rotated. If you're using a sensible amount of colors (say, 16), any aa photoshop drops down through the indexing process will be really easy to manipulate if you don't like it.

Or just, if you have Graphics Gale, use the rotation tool that appears in the center of the selection box, and make sure you don't have AA button checked. Basically what Larwick said.

Sure, so is most of the stuff that I saw light the NPA-fuse. Just kidding here, I never was a purist about this. Only no-no in my book are 24bit color-reducing, scanning, grid-copying and such.

My only reason for pushing for pure pixel art methods is that they produce better results most of the time. Control produces better results.

But for resizing lineart, my method produces better results than say, redrawing the whole lineart or rescanning or whatever. It's a different thing. It's not a matter of purism.

Most of the stuff that 'light the NPA fuse' as you say, for me, do not get better results than manual pixelpushing.

Even if someone reduces from hicolor, scans a base, or grid copies, as long as he a) is transparent about his methods, and therefore isn't trying to trick anybody by wowing them with lented strength [hello demoscene!] and b) goes in and pixelpushes to regain control at some stage, it's okay with me.

I totally know what you mean, I feel like I need to keep adding more to mine otherwise it won't make a whole lotta sense. 80% done, doing a bit more tonight and finishing it tommorrow or if everything goes pearshaped I may be one of the few left leaving it to the last day.. eck I don't think that'd stand, the point is so its ready for christmas, you had the deadline so handing it in late is 1. unfair on your partner (who may of worked their ars of for their gift to someone else) and 2. gives the mods (Is it Panda organising this) more work. But I suppose you should hand in atleast something for the deadline because its deffo the thought that counts, people here are on all levels of artistic skill and im sure whether finished or not your partner would be greatful

I will not give any extra time to those that don't come up with a gift because:
1. You signed up knowing the deadline was on the 23rd of December.
2. You can send in WIPs.
3. It is not my job to listen to all the excuses and whatever crap and take care of it for an extended time, just because you didn't plan your time properly.
4. You had 23 days. If you couldn't spare a couple of hours on this, then you shouldn't have signed up at all.

I won't give any second chances. Seeing how it went last year, it is worthless.
Anyone without a gift by the last time I check the PMs (which will be on the 24th's morning, as stated above), will be banned straight away.
