Some stuff by me

on: November 22, 2007, 09:45:43 am
Admittedly, I waited until my last thing went off the front page just so I could post more.
But then I never actually finished anything I wanted to post.
>>
<<

Uh, anyways.
So I saw a couple isometric collaborations, and I thought they were so cute. :D But there hasn't been one in like a year, what's up with that? Anyways, as much as I would love to be in one, I don't think I'm exactly up to par, so I'm doing my own. :D
Currently I only have this tree, though. ^^;;;

I can't seem to get from green to purple without using a gross blue. @__@ And as you can see here, I failed. It took me a while to get the leaf thing going on, and I think it looks not too bad. :D
So I'd like to hear what you think and such. I'd especially like to know how to do the purple thing...
I included the one on the right in case you wanted to see the lineart, or something like that. ^^;; lolll

(Took "iso" out of the title, because I have stuff I want crit and stuff on, but don't really want to make more topics for little things.)

What makes you think that your work is in isometric-perspective? It's not, the tree is drawn from a side-perspective.

The texture of the tree (ie. the leaves) are drawn nicely, in my opinion. About the purple "back-color": I don't see it working. Maybe try to make it darker (less brightness) or change the hue to blue (blue works quite nicely in that position on vegetation).

i think the purple can work, but my advice on what colors you can get away with shouldn't necessarily be taken to heart :P.

The tree really isn't in isometric perspective, in a while i'll post a sample of how to work when i find out how to scan or pixel from here (what kind of computer doesn't even come with paint???)
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

Yeah, I don't really know how to make a tree look isometric, I guess. @__@

Anyways, here's a few more things~

I think I'll go with the bigger flowers. :3
The lights aren't lit (hence why they're shaded, lolll). I'll be making some lit ones, though... after I do a bit of research on how.

well think about it, isometric is a looking down view.. with your tree you can see up it. I'd roughly see your tree at this view to make it isomertric.

lol I used mspaint colours, im so crazy.
I've not got anything interesting to type here..

I'm not getting it, am I? @__@
I lowered the leaves, then kinda extended them up a bit. And I tried to round the bottom downward, but not sure how that turned out. :\
And I just scribbled the shading in here, but I find it looks better than my last. D: What's up with that?

Edit:
I should probably finish a project before moving onto another. xD;; Buuuut~
I'm working on a platformer. :D I got inspiration from a few threads around here, and got an idea for my own.
In any case, here's a wip walking ant. Well, supposed to be an ant. xD; But it's be a pain to animate more legs. And there's currently no arms because I want to get the legs right first.
There's something weird going on, though. @__@ The peaks of his walk are so close together, then there's a few level frames. Uh. My grammar should be shot. But you can kinda tell where the peaks are by the antennae flopping. They flop just as he lands back down. lol I think those kinda need to be fixed. xD;;

Moving the highlighted area of the brush down a few pixels would probly help portray it as isometric
i'd remove the black outlineso n the chunks of foliage contained within the object
(on on the outside too, but that's stylistic preference, and dependant on the importance of trees in whatever this graphci is for)

@__@...
I tried rounding the bottom more and extended the highlight down.
One with and one without the clumps because I just don't think they're working.

edit~

I think I fixed the thing with its antennae... Do ants even have those? .__o;;;
Anyways, I coloured the legs and added the arms. But when I colour them, I can't really see them. @__@

hexapods everywhere are grateful to you, sherm.  I was about to say the same thing :P

about the legs and arms - one of the main reasons cartoon characters end up with big gloved hands is to help this exact thing.  you dont need gloves, but put in large, obvious hands and the arms will be less important.
