[WIP] Cat, Waterbottle, and a Monitor.

on: November 11, 2007, 11:29:11 am
Hi, i got some pixel art here. Tally-ho!

These are original artworks, made from scratch.
I basically did everything with the pencil tool.
And actually, this is my first post!
It seems that the usual backgrounds are green of "transparent" but I made these before I even knew about this forum.
so yeah, i'll probably edit my art if you notice any major flaws or something interesting to add.

hopefully my post has proper educate.

Not much to say except maybe the grey outline for monitor could be cleaned up a bit. Other than that nice pieces. About the cat, if its a picture of a statue of a cat, thats fine,
but if its a representation of an actual cat, maybe different eyes and legs would be better. Also, the ears are strange. I guess it is a statue of a cat, red cats aren't common.
Modern artists are told that they must create something totally original-or risk being called "derivative".They've been indoctrinated with the concept that bad=good. The effect is always the same: Meaningless primitivism

Though you say its hand-made, it doesn't, I'm guessing you used the fill tool and maybe the brush tool, either this or you're just using way too many colors, try to keep it simple:

Also, I think you should use reference:

thank you for the tips Bengoshia! (also, the monitor link doesn't seem to work)
i actually made the monitor and water bottle off of my monitor and an arrowhead bottle. yeah...

I'll tell you how i made the cat.  ;D

i made the outline and filled in the colors
and for the first version i had this

(to tell you the truth, the reason it doesn't have a nose is that i didn't plan for t to be a cat)

then a friend of mine told me that the colors didn't look pleasant. so i changed the purple to red. (last time i used the fill bucket)

then i added a nose...

then i took about 6 colors and used them to shade the red, and i started shading more and more.
then i did the same with the yellow.
then i touched it up after about 3 weeks of me neglecting it.
and theres the finished product.

i  call it hand made because i made it with the magnifier tool in MSpaint and the pencil tool.

and i never use brush tools. they always mess up my outlines. i never use it in pixel art.
