on: October 29, 2007, 09:52:12 pm

Welp, here is my sass walk. Still need to shade it and stuff but this is the basic animation I got done. I havent done pixel art ina very long time and I've learned a bit about animation so I'm trying to apply what i know now. Lemme know what youse think.  :)

very unusual walk loop... nice attitude... though some where along the way something goes wrong...

the legs are lovely... I really enjoying the stompy marching vibe.

it's the arms... and upperbody that halfway through the sequence, suddenly change direction and then snap back again creating a very jarring effect...

on frame 5, the arm suddenly snaps forward in sync with the leading foot, (when it should be out of synch)...  I think you need to address this...

you can stiill do that pucnhing the air thing but swap the limb that does it...

Thanks for the crit : D
hrm ok so I erased the hands and started from scratch, i started off by making the arms move the opposite that they should x_x. So i tried again, so far ive only got 1 arm on him but I think it looks better to how it should... really choppy though that one frame really does make it pop alot and I dunno how I can fix the arm for that frame.

looking back at what I had before though I liked the ragdollish whip look to his arms....I might try and go back and get that effect. (not sure how to achieve that though.)

Edit: hrm...i suppose his head should be twisting opposite of this legs as well...i wonder if that would wreck the stoming effect though?

I'm trying to think of the personality of this character, what's got him/her walking like this. Did you have any thoughts, Jak, when you made this? The walk looks very purposeful.

I like the stomping of it all but it doesn't feel like a smooth enough animation, maybe working on the sprite a bit more would help as well.
Also just for Takam, I'll post this on e/b/aums later.

I thought I'd seen this char before somewhere...

beatles fan per chance?

Mr No-where man.

- funny... I'm stumped... I'm not sure how I'd resolve this one?

you've got an 8 frame loop, but it looks a lot less...  I think you may need to up the frame count to take up the slack you lose on the foot stomp, I disagree about it needing to be smooth... it needs to flow... and currently it doesn't. I think by adding two frames will give you more flow for the feet to move across the floor, AND, give you more scope to move the arms like you want without being too jarring...

This yacko animation shows a really disjointed animation can work.

Haha wow, I am a beatles fan but I've yet to watch Yellow Submarine all the way through so I haven't seen that character before.

Anyshways, I added the extra frame the extra arm and an intimate quantity of sasquatch butt. Enjoy.

I didn't really think of a purpose for his walk, i just wanted to make an exaggerated walk cycle heh.
