I think Arachne's is a bit too bright and shiny, I like the dull surface of the original.

incidentally, I do like the eyes being close to each other as well :] It gives him a troll-like stupidity, making him look even wickeder (wicked can be used in comparative phrases. Now it can.)

So what I'll say is Go secondary subtle light-source!

and

Go hue shifting! Going from a blue-ish gray hue to a yellow/sand:y hue would look gorgeous on this one :]

Great job!

Sorry it took  so long >>;;;
I havent had much freetime lately.
but i did it today, so...hurray!
OLD
NEW
i updated the pallete,
redid the face almost completely
used arachnes edit to fix some major flaws(shoulder, face, etc) and also added a bit by his ear like her edit had.
moved the eyes apart, even though i too like the troll look, i think this is more fitting..
and messed with some other things.
thanks all ^^ this has really improved, imo.

Hmm... the new one looks like some green heavy light is illuminating him.

Other than that, great work.

its a palette inspired by big-brother's post, 'cause its an old statue, but maybe i went over-saturated with the green...ill edit with my new palette.

EDIT;
um...its already pretty saturation-low...could you explain a bit more what you mean?

Like...

The colors should be a bit darker. Unless this creature was standing in front of a green light, It should be darker.

The new one looks better,

I'm sorry, I didn't say that the old one looked transparent. Too transparent.

UPDAATTE

i made the canvas bigger, as you can see. I made the wings completely visible, horizontally at least, and adjusted the lighting of the torso and arm

I really think you should turn this into a full blown illustration. Add a background and some more shades to smooth out the blending on the gargoyle.

if i were to go that route, he would probably stray from being a gargoyle, but i dont mind that.

red is my original concept, while blue is a different idea...blue gives him more of a demonic feel imo. any ideas of yours would be great ^_^
