First post, First pixel art!

on: September 22, 2007, 01:23:30 am
This is my first post here, and I'll admit, I'm a little new on the net, so please be kind heh. Anyways, Figured I'd try and do a piece of pixel art, its my first pixel art ever!!! its a rock! The purpose was to try and put detail into the wall and floor and such w/out it looking uniform, and also to do proper looking shading. anyways, here it is!

If anybody has pointers, that'd be great :).

Also was wondering, is png a good format for pixel art?

This is a good for your first try and yes .png is good but don't use .jpeg because they get blurry and hard to read

Correct me if I am wrong, but the rock looks like you pillow-shaded it.

According to the way the background is shaded, the light source comes from the top. Because of the high amount of contrast, you might want to keep an outline around the rock.

Shadow is a little fuzzy because of the dithering. Make it smoother.

You should also dither the rock a little to and more texture to it and make it more rock-like.
