Hm...
I think you should continue working on your ship before worrying about colours, you can think about that later  :-\
I'm still a newb around here, please be patient TT__TT

Looks like a cute little paper ship, in my opinion. Kinda cute. ^_^

However, the main cockpit window (and part of the ship?) seems to face an incorrect perspective.

Yeah, too many colors. Tone them down. (Too many isn't generally THAT frowned upon, but it's very common to use as little as possible to hone your skills.)

Also, try antialiasing the windows at first. I think the one closest to us is the one that seems most out of proportion. Also, it doesn't look very 'ship'-y. Give it a texture, some more depth to it (There is some, as is.), a few hidden engines or a trail that signalifies where said engines are..

in my opinion it does kinda look like a paper airplane.
try to give it more of a metallic looks, and some the generic space ship stuff.

You're pillow-shading. :( Look at that nasty banding effect you get. Try to break it up a little like I've done below.

I think I preferred the simpler shading in the previous version. How about adding more details details to it. Think about the ship's purpose. Is it a cargo ship? War ship? There are no visible guns or hatches anywhere. For instance, if you look at a space shuttle, it has visible seams along its center where the shuttle bay opens, and where the wing flaps are. Add something to it that tells us what it's for. Another thing you'll find on a space shuttle is a rocket nozzle. It doesn't have an open flame like your ship has. Looking at some pictures of existing space craft might give you some ideas, though they might be a bit less elegant than what you're after. :)

i tried to fix the pillow shading on the side
it looks a little better now i think... used the same effect as on the side of the ship

Hm, I don't really like this shading you added to the ship. I preferred your ship before you tried to mess with the shading, since the other shading was fine. The only problem was that there's no details on your ship. The black window thing is strangely asymmetric, the ship lacks any sort of nifty decals, and if it weren't in space it'd probably not be very flight-worthy because of the wings :/. Also, the flame coming out the rear should be a light source and cause some sort of colorful funky backlighting. You were doing so well, and now you're leading this the wrong way! Turn back before it's too late.

If you design it with functionality in mind, it will be much more believeable.

It looks soft and fuzzy, not hard and steel.

I think you should lose the soft shading.

I think you could add a redish tint to the lighting of the ship that would help it and then use a cyanish tint for the shading and you could limit the shading to about 2 colors or even 1 though it would be as 3d

Aye! I agree. I was liking it more when it had hard edges. The current shading/surface smoothing looks more organic (almost salamanderish!  ;) ) than metal.
Here's my edit:
