I would'nt mind to help.  :D  ! You need yo make it look less tiled by adding more randomness to it... make 2-3 more tiles and random them in for a nice dirt affect. ;)

What I usually do to help get rid of the grid look in single tiles is to look at it tiled like you have. Zoom to 1x, find things that are tiling poorly(like right now you have a wavy look in it), circle it with red or such, and zoom in and see what pixels are 'causing the tiling and fix it up. Right now the problem is you have formed a line of the base color in every tile, topped with the lightest color above the line, and it forms a wave-like pattern.
I also notice you have a sort of density problem with the dirt. The top seems like very fine dirt, while the bottom of the tile is thick and clumped. This is because on the bottom you spaced out your lightest shade more than you did on the top of the tile.

Eh...looks like a bunch of stars, or x's to me. Make the blades of grass point in a more uniform direction, it'll look much more natural that way.

First of all, I much prefer your first dirt. Your second is absolutely disgusting to me!! It looks almost just like a noise. Use it for REALLY pebbly areas, but not as general dirt.

Anyway a large part of fixing the grid really isn't that your tiles are bad, but in how your tiles are laid. We're working with small tiles here, they're almost always going to look tiled unless the colors are really low contrast.

To fix it I simply will just show you a process here:

Your original image. I enlarged the canvas a 16x16 tile on each side for rearranging purposes.

Here you will see that I shifted every other 32x32 row over.

I put the excess tiles in the whole on the left side.

Since we already shifted each 32x32 row, I decided to shift only every other 32x32 column, and only a single 16x16 column of that. Why? Because we've already rearranged drastic rows, only a tad bit needs changed on the columns to add variation.

Here I filled in the games with the excess. It looks great!

If we moved every other 32x32 column (instead of a 16x16 column on every other 32x32 column) then you'll end up with a snazzy dirt ground, too. And this is what it looks like. Whatever floats your boat

That's bloody genius, Brian.
Also, I have to agree, first dirt is better, and grass looks more like a patterned cloth.

Your grass is fine! Add more blades, add more shading. Then repost it and we'll see if anything else needs done

The tiling is way obvious. There's a dark horizontal line running through them.

Looks much better! But, yes, there is an obvious boundary if you look close enough. Also, if you're going for an X look to your grass that's fine otherwise perhaps add more blades, make some current ones move different, to remove its monotony.

Unless your game is using a camera pointing down at a 90 degrees angle to the floor, it would probably be a good idea to add some overlapping grass blades (for depth) and additionally you could also "lift" the two lower grass blades on the "X"s. This will add a nice perspective to your pixels.

Concerning the tiling, I think you did a pretty good job on hiding the modulation, except for the horizontal darker lines, as Xion has pointed out.

I could make an edit if you want me to, because my crippled English might in the way when I'm trying to explain something less obvious.

Is that just a recoloring of the dirt? :o Shame on thee.

Still looks better, but if you put this next to the dirt tiles, it'll look strange.

Well I felt your last grass was pretty but it needed more drama (for grass blades) if it wants to measure up to the holy Seiken Densetsu 3 grass tiling--those people who made it are just amazing. I am amazed that they KNEW they could make stuff GREAT and they did it, they didn't give up they made it.

So I took your X grass, took out the dark green background, then I added some highlights to the grass blades and pasted them over the new grass. I came up with this:
Here's the original tile:

Perhaps a little dirty looking, but I feel it portrays grass a little cleaner. I'd also try to more monochrome the colors/reduce the contrast if your characters are meant to stand out particularly well on the tiles. Right now the tiles have some character

Too bright in my opinion. Remember that the grass should not be the center of attention; dull it down a bit.

Also, I think the blades are too big.

I think the highlights are too strong, the blades are too large, and the pattern is was too distinct. You have a nearly straight dark line going vertically through it at 15 pixels from the left, then a jagged shadow at the bottom of the tile that makes the repetition horribly noticeable.

Ok dulled down the grass a little bit, and changed the blades.

The tiles are for a game realy, but i have never made a game before so im going into the unknown.

The only tiles i have are the ones shown here. More will come tho

I really like this! If you try the trick I taught you about rearranging the tiles, as well, it still looks great. I think it can be better, but let's not be too cruel. It's nice!
