Glinkis' pixel tiles.

on: July 23, 2007, 08:51:03 pm
Hello all!

I'm going to post my pixel tiles and such here for constructive critisizm.
Those tiles are for a game, being developed by a e-friend of mine from scratch in c++

Every tile I post in this first post is 17px wide and 25px high, but are going to be remade to 33px wide and 49px high.

Look below for the tiles.

You shouldn't upload BMP to the web anyway, convert to GIF or PNG instead. It's pretty much impossible to crit pixel work as JPG. Check out http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=3466.0

okay, I'll make a new post with *.png's instead.

Overlap, or not to overlap, that is the question... it's used in this pic, what do you think about it?

The pic also show my newly created waterfall.

thats a really sharp angle , kinda makes me a little sick to my stomach from dizziness but it looks very cool. the waterfall looks great. I think that the character needs a sharper angle too it to fit into the world.  I think more of the top of him needs to be shown.

ouch, this perspective exists and was used in a few old school games. You haven't done a bad job, but I have to say the angle is one of the most disgusting angles ever to make it to video games, if not the most! I don't get why the higher blocks become a darker colour. The green enemy looks like he is on the wrong angle. The textures all seem pretty much the same with just different colours. So far I like the waterfall most, I would change the angle before continuing on this, as it is a fair bit sickening!

1. Contrast! I thought it was just solid colored blocks until i zoomed in.

2. Get rid of the black lines! You should not be able to see where the individual tiles start and ends. Most people try to eliminate the grid. But you have enhanced it with your black outlines.

3. The enemy is not the same angle as the tiles. And perhaps you should redo it in the most common isometric angle instead?

The isometric perspective allows you to see the top as it is and displays the sides on 50% size in which the z(vertical) axis stands straightly diagonal.
Therefore you enemy's are wrong.

THe above comments are right except part 3. This agnle is way easier! :D
