Seeing all these pixel-shaped smiley, I think one thing to consider would be having different colors, depending on the smiley's mood. That would make them even more pixely in a way, though it might create visually messy posts. Or maybe using that orange-ish color from the forum's IM icons instead of the egg yolk yellow.
My sentiments exactly.

Oh i like these, they're very clear. Although i also really like the 3d'ish perspective on some of the other square smileys.

I love Panda's smilies, but they seem very large.

Lawrence is right, we need a mushroom!!!

I think a nice simple gray/white set with the occasional light shade of another color will do the forum some good.

my god what did photobucket do to my pixels?! i'm trying to fix it so it doesn't look like a jpeg...

That may be because you uploaded it from a bmp? Photobucket turns bmp images into jpg's. I suggest you make it a PNG for hosting :)

I do think this is a good idea, then we could have a challenge where you'd have to pixel in smileys in a post. This would really make people feel like MSpaint is super-advanced right after.

I concur.  I want to pixel something using the forum's emoticons.... it'd have to be a somewhat decent palette to work with though.
