New avatar + Mecha.......Just a dump actually.

on: April 14, 2007, 12:02:45 pm

Bit of a new style, no dithering. Just to try how my stuff looks without dithering, and bringing my blue haired character in a new perspective.
21 colours inc trans. I think I'm giving up on that demon, because the readability is too low, the pose is wacked, and it would basicly mean redoing the entire image.

That one's inspired alot by snake. It will be animated.

Comment away.

Ocapus, I love how your improving but I can still see room for improvement.
Try to use some dark colours and not dark ones or make some shadows and place them on the opposite side of the face which is not recieving light.

Your colours are too closely in light.

Helm will probally come and he can probally help you on anatomy.

BUT, massive improvement from the last face.

Keep it up.

Rerg: Eh? I don't exactly get what you're saying. Don't use a dark shade, use a dark one instead?  ???
Thanks for the compliment too :), yup, there's always room for improvement.
~KING~: You're not the first one to say that, here:

Hey, Opacus, this is looking pretty cool. Great colours and your improvement rate is really impressive. I've got just a couple of crits for you, and an edit to go with.

First has to do with the high colour count. You have way too many colours here, and it's making the pic look blurry. In the places I edited, I cut back the use of skin tones, and reduced the amount of AA. Sometimes a more simplistic approach can be better, or at least... cleaner. The hair, too, which I didn't edit, but which suffers from the same problem: High colour count and over AA'ing is making it look blurry.

Apart from that, I think your forms could use a bit of refinement. They aren't bad overall, but some things (the neck and hair particularly) look just a bit... I dunno, wonky? Again, though, this might be from the over AA'ing and blur, distorting forms and hurting readability and what not.

I like it. You have a great eye for colour. Congrats. :P

Better, but I still agree with Tremulant, that some forms need some refinement. The nose isn't as well defined as it could be (Tremulants edit actually show perfect what I mean), and the hair espcially on our left side looks erm well I can't really describe it but very unnatural. Normaly hair uses to fall downwards and even if it is a bit curly it doesn't get inn such odd shapes. At the moment it looks a bit like he has dreads + they don't really want to follow the rules of gravity :D
Okay maybe this description is a bit extrem, but what I only want to say is that imo you could make it much more realistic by making the area of hair smaller especially in terms of width.
Nice shading on the skin, but the highlight on his cheek is stil a bit low

Don't try to shade the colours in an unorginised fashion.
It stops giving defenition to the face.

Good Edit. The cheeks lightsource shouldn't be that low and the hair looks a little splongy and less defined.

Okay :D I hope you'll imrpove!

Cheers, Rerg.

with the mecha pic, i suggest you find a lightsource that illustrates depth between the leg in the forefront, and the one in back. right now, they read as if they are on the same plane- not a good thing.
nice job so far though ^^.
