For Halloween, I plan on hitching a ride to Madison so I can break a few windows and maybe get tear-gassed.

Hehe, stop in Milwaukee, we'll get smashed!

Yeah, you have to take it at face value. To me, that site is an inadequate source of information on what 'Pixel Art' really is. And yeah, in the broader sense, anything digital is 'Pixel Art', but if you noticed, one of the entries was an oil painting!!

I mean, sure, they title the site with PIXEL in the name, but they go on to state that they are spotlighting art from video games. One of the works looked like a sloppy Photoshop/Painter work, and it probably looked better in the game rather than on its own. This is comparable to a gallery for one or two individual frames from a pixelled animation, or a fine art gallery featuring GUI's. The 'work' is not anything especially noteworth... ah, but art is subjective :P

Any time I see SpikeTV sponsoring something, I get a bit uneasy about it. Same with their video game awards, or most of the programming for G4 TV. By no means does this corporate facing legitimize the message they're trying to portray, though making our art form 'legitimate' is an issue Tsugumo recognized, so I suppose they share the same goal? I don't think they're doing a service by being so general/vague about it and at the same time having the backing of a Los Angeles Art Museum. That should invoke some credibility to it, including the established persons listed as the jurors of the galleries. I'd love to know what the GDR members think of this issue of art in games and games as art.

Anyhow, we're still working towards awareness ourselves, and will continue the work laid out ahead. :)

I think a more suitable name would be "Into the Polygon," but that's just me...

Matte Painting! One mountain is missing detail altogether. Pretty good, though.

I cannot strongly enough urge people to check this out:

I think it's all concept art, none of it to be used in-game, just used to set the tone, mood, and setting of the game.  I've seen people that can whip out stuff like that in, like, two hours. It's pretty insane sometimes.  Of course, sometimes you can tell it was done in two hours, but quality of execution generally isn't the point of concept art.
