Still not as fast as a mouse, but more precise.

Whatwhat? How is keyboard more precise than a mouse, or anything. They are JUST AS precise, as is a tablet as well or a trackball, or a joystick (which is pretty painfull to pixel with too).

More precise because if you know you want to place a pixel 3 spaces to the left of where your cursor is currently, you can just tap the key 3 times, instead of guaging how far to move your mouse... etc. (although after a while it comes just as naturally)

It seems like if anything, the benefit would be not needing space for an extra peripheral.

Well precise is relative. Also it's not like people pixel at 1x or anything. I for one use a tablet since about 3 years now and I would never go back to mouse.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

I am the same way, i have to use my tablet whenever i am doing anything art related, pixel or otherwise. I only have a trackball mouse and it's too jerky on the zoom level that i am comfortable pixeling at.

If you are looking for a "portable" mouse, get one of these http://www.newtonperipherals.com/Mogo_Products.htm
It looks uncomfy as hell, but I think it would be better than a keyboard.
And it looks like it would fit in a wallet.

It fits into the PC-card slot of the laptop. No need to carry around a wallet  :P

I'm aware, but if you are not going to be on your own laptop, you can just carry it in your wallet.

There is a function in windows called MouseKeys that let you control the mouse cursor with the num pad. It may not be the solution you wanted but you might as well try it out: http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training/windowsxp/mousekeys.aspx
