nice!  the sprite reads immediately despite its small size.  I think a little shoulder movement would complement the gun and backpack motion nicely.

i try to improve the runcycle - the sprite comes later.
c&c is appreciated

For readability, I'm afraid the gun wiggling has to go. It really looks like the tip kind of loses its mojo and just hangs dangling.

Eugh, that was the worst description evar, sorry <3

On the contrary, if you make the gun wiggle in both the up and down directions, and add a little more exageration, it could do wonders for the personality of the sprite. Sort of a mini-metalslug style, exagerate the motion to get the point across. I like a sprite a lot, lots of detail for being so small.

I'm really liking this sprite for some reason. I think if you added a bit of rotation with his shoulders it would make his run look more defined. But this may end up making it look too messy, so who knows? Anyway, good sprite and keep working on it because I'd love to see the end result.

HONK HONK EDIT TIME.

Either the highlight/transparency of the gun has to go, or the wiggling does.

I prefer wiggling.

Also, attempted shoulder and head movement.

When the near arm goes forward, though, wouldn't the guntip go back and vice versa?
The backpack looks a little low...but then I've never seen a decked out militia so I could be wrong.
In any case, Very cool sprite.

yeah, he needs more vertical movement. People move up and down when they run, especially wih a huge pack on their back. Also, make the gun bounce up and down each step.

It looks like the arms and legs on each side are syncronised, As in right arm goes forward when right leg goes forward. Try to walk (or run) like this in real life and see if your brain likes it. :)

Haha, there was a guy in my class last semester who did that for his walk cycle assignment.. our instructer asked him to get up and try walking like that, turns out that was actually how he walks...  Very strange guy.

shrumpfkopf - For such a small sprite i'm very impressed by how well it reads.  I definately agree with changing the tip of the gun for when it moves back and forth, the tip almost looks like a fishing rod.

I somehow can't believe that someone walks like that normally. It's totally unbalanced and not comfortable. If he does tho some of the wiring up in his brain must be a bit fucked :D

Pretty sure this guy has a combination of autism and OCD.  He walks around the hall pretending to be swinging a light saber from time to time and never changes his clothes.

Strangest guy i've ever met. His line-work is incrediblely clean, almost robotic accuracy... his rough sketches look like they've already been through all the stages of clean-up.

Some people do walk like that, it's true. And it's not as uncommon as you guys make it sound. I just can't remember the term for it... and thus I can't look it up and confirm what I just said. Oh well. In any case, I love the little guy.

Well I have never seen someone walk like that normally and it is extremely energy unefficient.

it's one of those things that you dont think about much until you notice it.  like people who normally breathe with their mouth instead of their nose.....

guy sounds liek an asperger case to me, but i haven't met him and i dont have an MS in behavioral studies

run cycle looks lovely, just trade the legs and the arms around so that he moves proper and figure out something to do with the gun
A mistake is a mistake.
The same mistake twice is a bad habit.
The same mistake three or more times is a motif.

I didn't even realize I did that  :blind:
I was just going by the backpack thing and not even looking at the legs...

something I would really love to see in this animation would be a slightly moving shadow. I think it looks kinda static under the moving guy. otherwise great work :)

The gun has become WIN!

Ironically enough, starting from where you are now, a bit more exaggeration would rock. I hope I'm not contradicting myself now, I hope you get what I mean. As it is now, it's a great base for an exaggerated yet more believable motion with the gun.

But aw well, it's wonderful as it is. I totally love this shit mang. At such a small size you've come up with greatness! And I agree about the shadow, gife the animation life when you can <3

I walk with right hand and foot forward at the same time...
Now that I noticed that it is abnormal I try not to, but it's a little difficult. But apparently I do other things oddly  :-[

Very good improvement in the update, methinks.
