Creativity Issues

on: March 12, 2007, 02:54:44 am
Well, I am trying to get much, much better in pixel art and am willing to spend countless hours into doing so. I just don't know where to start. I'm also having issues thinking of what things to draw hence the name of the thread. Any help for me fellas?

Draw a furry... in a Runescape signature... with a big lens flare over the whole thing.

I would think about the things you like such as what kind of movies you're into, your favorite book, your favorite band, and even your favorite activities. Anything that's important to you. If you have a pet, draw it to get some practice. There are endless options for you...just do some brainstorming.

I know. :B Just seemed like a silly question.

Well, most people starting out do stuff like rpg characters/ platform characters/ fighter sprites/ mockups and the like. Umm... maybe try some of those? :-X

Hey, enough with the lame sarcasm and OT stuff.

Here are two threads that basically cover what you asked for (as in sources of inspiration)
http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=2713.0
http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=1967.0

Then once you are full with it I guess you'll start wanting to draw by yourself.

Also don't forget to check this:
http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=3467.0
as it has links to other artists' sites and "eye candy"

awesome advice!  i bet you've never even tried marijuana....  :hehe:

Why not go to a museum, you can pick up lots of inspiration there.  If you want to get into game art, think of a wacky concept (e.g a hero character must collect various objects in some fanatasy-world)  and start creating mockups and "sprites".  I find creating mockups fun as you can be as creative as you like and not give a damn about the coding or how it would actually work.

If you want to create a more realistic piece, why not try sketching and looking online for tutorials on anatomy and drawing from real-life.

If you want to create abstract art, just make a load of shapes  and fill them in with random colors... heh
