I say because this is such a small piece you use greater shade or colour differency.
Dont dither and make sure you give it main physical features out.

when you dither, you are working from small to large.
try working from large to small.

I've deffinitly got to stop with my dithering.
I have no idea how to do it.

I think in most of your pieces, they are generally too noisy, especially for their small size. I don't think dithering is needed that much here. Again, more flat simplistic shading will do the trick, in my opinion. I also  got rid of the extra redish hue that was in the aliens body. I thought that it wasn't necessary to have it, since it was already so close to the purplish/reddish hue you had in the beams and such. Not to mention, I tried enlargening his chest to show deep panting, as well as widen his eyes, to show fear...
