2nd pixel ever finished, needs tips

on: January 05, 2007, 12:07:54 pm
Yeh well, my friend did the linework, the antomy isnt that great but thats besides the point.
I need you people out there to help me show more shading ways, this one i used colouring like +'s and put colours everywhere just for something different.
Its not really covered by a light source, because i was fiddling but this is how i turn out

Can anyone give me tips on how to shade? it would help me.. also i cant do linework AT ALL.. i cant even draw a face. i need lots of help and you guys seem like nice guys to hear from.

Right now it looks like you just threw in random dither patterns as opposed to shading to show form.
I.....am......me............

some of the textures that the dithering gives are great for it but they should be what defines the shape of a body, not some lines that sit on top of it.  As it is now it seems very flat to me, not so much from the way it has been shaded but because of the lines that go over everything.  Make a distinction with the colors/dithering instead of using a black line and I think it would turn out quite a bit better.

Dithering gives great texture, but its to random.. got no light source, no depth.

You need to fix the lighting/shadows, it has no light source, and the anatomy is screwed up too.
I made a little edit which shows a bit how I think it looks better:

This is only a reference for the anatomy, and I gave it a lightsource. It's quite plain.
I'm sure the edit has flaws too, but I think it fixes most isuess...
