a purple face... [finish... I think.]

on: January 04, 2007, 04:28:19 am
Hello, I've been making this on and off for sometime now and received some very good tips on the face, though I am a bit stuck on the veil.
So any help on how to make it look like fine cloth(and any other tips in general) as oppose to the sack of potatoes he's wearing now :P would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I'm not exactly sure what sort of cloth that is supposed to be, if you could be more detailed on what kind of fine cloth (wool, silk, etc..) maybe people could give more specific input.

Sometimes an indicator of fineness would be a bit of translucency, or perhaps sheen.  Also fineness could mean perhaps a thinner cloth, it looks just a bit bulky as it curves over the headband.  But it all depends on what you were going for.

not much good at the descriptions, but the clothe I was thinking of is something along the line of a window curtain, not the layer that blocks out the lights, but rather the one that's against the window though without the translucent qualities.

Anway, I'll give it a further attemp so people'll have a better idea of what I mean.

edit: here's a little more detail.

if you are going for a fine silk/veil type thing, I think you need to show a little translucency - if we could see some of his face structure, even the basic lighting/shadows through the cloth then I think you would start to achieve that feel.   IF that is what you are going for :)  I think as it stands it has way to many folds and lines in it - no fabric that is heavy enough to be completely opaque would have that many folds (that i can think of anyways).  Awesome job on the face btw!
