QWAK:Developer published GBA game.

on: December 30, 2006, 05:49:38 pm
well, there's this guy that once upon a time came here to recruit someone for his indy game. in the end I think he just decided to do the game all by himself.

http://www.qwak.co.uk/

point is, he finished his game and he's publishing it trough that website, hoping he can sell all 300 copies to get back the money he invested on it.

as an aspiring gamemaker I could only be touched by his endeavor so I thought I'd give you guys a heads up, he has a demo there so you can see if you like before you buy.

the atmoshpere is really weird, it has a very very oldschool feeling to the gameplay, I feel like it's an Atari-era game logic applied to GBA technology, a really rare curiosity of a game.

It's a conversion of his old Acorn/BBC game which he also produced a version for the Amiga (which the GBA version closely resembles) which was published by Team 17 (company more famous for Worms these days).  I spoke to him a while back about it as the Amiga game is one of my favorite 2 player games of all time and my favorite single screen platformer game.  I vastly prefer it to the more famous Bubble Bobble.

I'd buy it but my GBA SP was stolen a couple years back and have no intention of getting a new GBA or a DS.  Might see if I can least buy to use a rom of it to support it as I'm still a fan of the game.
keep on moving, lil dude...

well, unless you have the equipment to make a ROM of it yourself, i wouldn't count on finding on online (unless i am mistaken, and a lot of people have this sort of equipment).

Chances are the 300 copies that exist won't be sold to someone who has the hardware/time/knowledge to dump the cartridge.

Where do you go to publish just 300 copies of a game?
que faire quand on a tout fait, tout lu, tout bu, tout mangé
tout donné en vrac et en détail
quand on a crié sur tous les toîts pleuré et ris dans les villes et en campagne

wow so it can be done then, you don't need a team to make a game. Love how there's so much to do in this game, its gotta keep ya entertained.
I've not got anything interesting to type here..

I just bought a copy. Nice price, and you gotta support the indie game devs. :)

Well I was thinking about contacting the author of the game as me and him have spoken on MSN several times before.

Can you PM me his MSN or AIM info? I'd really like to ask him a few things.

Thanks,

Adam

Where do you go to publish just 300 copies of a game?

You have to pay Nintendo to legally publish games for their consoles. Basically Nintendo puts the stuff on cartridges for you and you pay per cartridge more or less.
Also, making roms is not that hard. I have the equipment to do so, but I would never make roms of commercial games and then spread them.
