Friendly Alien Guy

on: December 29, 2006, 01:29:47 am
Okay, my first thing to C&C.  I should've been working on my avatar, but after pixeling it I was burned out on it.

So, this is my alien guy.  I think my AA is a bit sloppy, need more practice.  Let me know what you all think.

I can not really say I like it.

The idea is great however, the shadow of a alien is a great concept in the making.  I think it is the pallete that is bothering me.

Neat alien! I for one like it. And I infact think the colors work very well. I really like the overall style of this cool artwork.  :)

Its begging for two black eyes.
Modern artists are told that they must create something totally original-or risk being called "derivative".They've been indoctrinated with the concept that bad=good. The effect is always the same: Meaningless primitivism

Thanks for the replies.  I've got one nay, one yay, and one either a artistic suggestion, or a desire to physically assault my artwork (I'll try putting in some black eyes, see how it plays).  I guess I was mostly going for style, most of what I've done has been lacking in it.  Don't go easy on me though, I am looking to improve (esp you, Ryona.. I've noticed you seem to be especially nice to the newbs. Bring it on.)

I think your aa could use some work. The darkest bits are only aaed one pixel, whereas the aa line should go halfway or so to the end of that row/column of pixels. There are some great aa tutorials at http://www.spriteart.com/main.html and http://pixelmonkey.ensellitis.com/tutorials/aa.html .

I think you could make the piece more interesting ny giving the head a different shape, something away from the boring circle you have now. Maybe add some eyestalks?
