What do you want, sonny?

on: December 13, 2006, 11:36:51 pm

Final Version
DONE
I learned a few things from this, mainly that A+A is very important and that edits are important

This is a good type of piece to practice lightsources and etcetera with, and you did a good job laying out the shadows across the face.
I'd try smoothing out the jaggi-ness along his cheek (his right, our left) and other areas like that, maybe give it some AA as well.

also: the nose looks a little flat, try defining the nose-wings and giving the bottom edge a little more round-ness.

Update:

Changed the pallete to a anti-alias friendly one. Adjust some problems. Tried to give it the 1950 movie impurity look.

It's begging to be animated now.

I like the style. reminds me of the classic Gameboy games. And coincidently enough, I've actually been working in that style recently.

Keep at it. I'd like to see more.

Wait! I made an edit ;D

just a few little crits...
touched up the aa in places (and added an extra shade), tweaked some forms (the eyes, made one into a monocle cause I thought that's where you  were going), messed with some shading, aaand... did some other stuff :P Hope it's helpful despite my lack of explanation.

Good stuff, btw. I do enjoy b&w pieces. :y:

Ah good edit Tremulant, it basically addresses everything I was going to crit. Except I think the nose should taper into the shadow tone just before black just a fraction bit quicker.

@Soup: Shaping up nicely, the main prob is shading. Basically make sure your shading is consistent to the lightsource, think about the face (and everything else) in terms of basic 3D form. Also every now and then sit back and look at your picture for jaggedness and smooth out with AA, and avoid using shades next to eachother that aren't adjacent to eachother on the palette ramp.

Looks like you've worked hard on the update. Here's my edit to give my suggestions/advice. I tweaked the palette a bit. Added another shade slightly lighter black to use for the aa of features. For portraits, make sure you aa the face's features so it will stand out well. Added the shading for hair. Made the glass have a white highlight to represent shine. You can learn lots more from edits, keep doing that and it'll become a habit.

Well I made this the other day and should have posted it sooner because now you've already updated and gotten some other edits but here's my edit of it.

Reworked some AA, added a darker color to buffer/AA the black, added a rosey nose for fun and tweaked your colors and some other minor stuff. I'm not sure what's going on with all those lines and stuff. I assume you're going for an old worn out film look but I'm not sure it's working that well.

Hey, that's a really cool edit, Delgeneith. Noticed how he made that hue shift.

Woot, Tremulant edited it again, making it sexy enough to lick. His is on the left, mine is on the right.

Instead of double posting, learn how to use the edit button. And stop trying to bump your thread the whole time.
If people want to comment on it, they will no matter where on the page it is.
Consider it a warning.

About your last update, I think it looks a tad too blocky, esp. the shoulders look awkward. And the AA is blurry.
The shadowed cheek on yours is wrongly placed/highlighted compared to the other one.
I guess you can study Tremulant's edit a tad more and see what fails on yours.
But it's evolving nicely.

To clarify, I don't mind double posts, as long as they make up for it.

But these are the kind that will make me bite your head off >:0
Thanks, and also I do not want the anotmy to be perfect so ya.
Final Bump before I put it onto PJ
This is why i liked his pallete.

The "posting something random, and then within a couple of hours making another post" kind.
Or the typical " *BUMP* " kind.
But yeah please stop bumping in the future if you have nothing to add.
